sunroof problem. Help PLZ!

Once again the sunroof controls are f*cked up.
I had the same problem about two month ago, and got some reply instructions from the ORG on how to reset it - it worked. But, I wasn't smart enough to write them down on my HDD, or at least to bookmark the page. So now I'm stuck again with the same problem, and I don't remember the solution.
Can anyone who can use Search - please do so on "sunroof" and "Teser" in the author box - because I remember posting about two years ago or so instructions on how to reset the sunroof completely.
Please help.

Thanks.

hey, moderators -

it looks like I'm not the only one having this problem,
so why is the link to original problem solving post isn't in the FAQ or How-To sticky???

Procedure, at least with the 2000-

Make sure the sunroof is closed.
Disconnect battery negative cable. Press brake pedal for a few seconds (mainly to drain residual electrical system capacitance). Wait 5 minutes or so.
Reconnect battery.
Hold the sunroof tilt UP button for 5-10 seconds. It should tilt up when you first hit it, so continue to hold the button for 5-10 seconds when it's up.
Close sunroof, try the slider button. It should work.

Thanks for BlackBIRDVQ for search .

Had my batt disconnected for a service procedure and that caused the problem on my 03. What I did was run the manual button through 2 complete cycles (quite a number of button pushes) while i was driving and it worked.

Tried it...didn't work. Taking it into dealer next week for this, among other things...

thanks - these are the exact directions that I've used two month ago, and it fixed the problem. However I'm surprised that it came back so soon.
I believe, that the other directions that I've used about two years ago - were different, and they fixed the problem for a much longer time. If only I could see my own posts and find that one where I have them written down.

Why do our sunroofs reset like that when the battery is disconnected? Happened to me a few weeks ago when i went in for a service. I thought my switch was busted or something worse. Ahh... this makes me miss the good old days (3rd gen) when all the controls were simple.

All I do when my sunroof has that problem is hold the button that shuts the sunroof down and hold it for a few seconds....fixes it everytime...no disconnecting anything....just make sure that the slide button is in the same spot the sunroof is...meaning if the sunroof is open..make sure the slide button is all the way back in the open side...then just hold the button the closes the sunroof down, for a few seconds...always resets my sunroof back...done it on a few maxima's already..

it also states in the owners manual what to do to reset the roof. If only we would read that book sometimes we would be surprised what's inside.

Not positive, but I guess it would set the limit points so you dont burn out the motor- or- it sets the sensitivity so some goof doesnt decapitate his drunk girlfriend who decides she really wants to feel the wind in her face

I would appreciate if you could indicate the number of the page where the procedure is described.
or even better - type up the procedure here, since you have manual for 2k2 maxima, and I have manual for 2k maxima where they don't mention how to reset the sunroof.

page 2-29

RESTARTING THE SUNROOF SLIDING SWITCH:

The sliding switch will become inoperable after the battery terminal is disconnected, the electrical supply interrupted and/or some abnormality detected. Use the following reset proceedures to return sunroof to normal:

1. If the sunroof is open, push the tilting switch repeatedly towards tilt DOWN to fully close the lid.

2. After the lid has closed all the way, keep pushing the tilting switchtowards tilt downfor more than 1 second.

that's correct. it's all voltage regulated, and that leve that zooms back and forth doesnt' really know what it's doing unles it knows exactly where it is each time. when you reset it, you're simply defaulting it back to it's "zero" location and then when you move the lever all the way across, the motor knows it can go so far.

personally it's a stupid idea, but only because it should 1) know it's limits and 2) be designed so that i can tap my god damn ****ing alarm to it!!!!

Thanks for the info.
however this procedure is not listed in 2k manual, and in fact does not work on 2k maxima.
