Acceleration Noise?????

I wanted to see what you guys think the problem might be. When I accelerate I hear a rattling noise I'm pretty sure its coming from the engine bay I just don't know what it could be. It doesn't happen all the time but enough to concern me. Thanks for any advice!!

6 sp or auto? Are you running premium? Any mods to the car, intake- exhaust?
What RPM ranges? A grunty rattle or a tinny rattle?

A lot of people lately have been complaining about a rattle. Sounds metalic like. i can really hear it when i am 6th gear and the rpms are around 1000 rpm or lower. I dont usually do this but i do this just to bring this rattle out.

OK then you are lugging the motor. Higher gears at that RPM cant handle anything but light throttle openings, or it can but it is really hard on the motor

I know i'm lugging the motor. It's not good for the motor i know. But when I accelerate I can hear it at the low rpms and doing this only exagerates teh sound so I could show it to the nissan tech. They were baffled and do not know what it is.

Cars are tuned right to the edge for emissions, performance and economy. Many cars I have driven can get a little load knock say below 2000-2500 RPM. My sister-in laws 04 accord for example. Automatics of course arent going to do this as much because of the initial slip of the torque converter and the fact that it will quickly downshift as load rises.

I have read that several auto engineers say a little knock is normal. The problem is what is a little?
Have you tried a number of different brands of fuel?

This could be also talking about that "other" rattle that the 5th-gens get....as I recall it had something to do with a heat shield touching against something in certain types of accelleration - nothing to do with engine pinging/knocking....

I get the "heat shield" rattle sometimes when accellerating hard into a right hand turn. I defnitely know the difference between this sound and engine pining/knocking, and I think crazcajun might be talking about this....

very true. Thats why I asked if it had a tinny sound and that doesnt normally fall into the lowest rev range. It is difficult to diagnose a sound from an internet description. I like the girl with the maxima fireball in your sig BTW

Well I guess I'll find out if it is a heatshield or not. I'm about to take off all the heatshields when i install the cattman headers. Guess we shall see. I'll keep you guys posted on this.

Comalies is the new one (and believe it or not you can buy it at Target with included unreleased tracks/demos/videos), and is the "catchiest". I like "Unleashed memories" the best, but it's a little more raw...."In a Reverie" and "Halflife" I like, but are not a good one to buy first...it's much more "experimental" I guess you could say.
