New Owner (almost)

Hey guys... just wanted to officially introduce myself. I've posted a few times already (the Xenon headlight theft in NJ is of particular interest to me unfortunately). Anyway, I've got a deposit down on a 2002 Maxima SE with 39K miles and a few options. I rented a 2002 Maxima in Phoenix a few years ago and loved it. My fiancee wants a new car and I figure this is the time. So it'll wind up being a surprise present for her

I live in Jersey City but the car will get an alarm system which will hopefully deter anyone when the car does happen to be parked in public places unattended (which will hopefully be very, very rare if I can help it) I've also got a 95 200SX SE-R with plenty of mods (therefore this Maxima will remain stock with the exception of an intake) and that's my fun car. It will also be the 'beater' car that'll go to those public places that I'd worry about the Maxima's headlights being stolen.

Can't wait to get involved with you guys and start learning more about this car!

Definately not trying to talk you out of your purchase, but the HL theft issue is huge in your area and an alarm hasn't proven to help at all since battery wires are often cut. I see you're aware but it really is reaching near epidemic proportions in Jersey. Keep it in the garage and don't park at malls from what I've read.

Otherwise, I'm sure you'll love the Max.

Hehe... hey Mike. No, it'll be an auto. It's for the fiancee. She had a Cavalier and wanted a manual so she got a 5spd NX2000. She no longer likes the manual after sitting through many a traffic jam coming to my place during rush hour. She wants an auto and I like having an auto when driving in lots of traffic (as an example, there was flooding Friday night and I went .8 miles in an hour and fifteen minutes) Anyway, it'll be a nice somewhat daily driver that's RELIABLE

Yeah, I know about how huge the problem is. I'm extremely vigilant as it is and will be more so with this car. For the most part, the car will sit in the garage and only come out for trips out of town or trips to areas that I know very well. It WILL NOT sit in mall parking lots, movie theater parking lots, commuter lots, or anything of the like. After everything's settled down in 5 years or so, I'll be able to drive the car a little more Or, if it doesn't settle down, I'll just sell the car down the road and someone will get a nice car with low miles

Dude, that sucks. I would just recommend taking the damn headlights with you when you go to bed so the HID thiefs see that their missing and leave you alone... but that might be too much work.

Yeah, well the though has actually crossed my mind more than once. I wouldn't be worried about where the car is parked overnight so much as when I or my fiancee go out (like food shopping for example) Teaching/showing her how to remove the headlights when she leaves the car parked somewhere might not be such a great idea

If this **** was going on in my neighborhood I would do it every day.. Take it off when I dont need it, then put it back on when I do. I wonder what the HID theives would think when they saw missing headlights..
