O2 Sensors

O2 Sensors
My check Engine light came on I went to Autozone to get a code pulled and they were unable to so. I have a feeling that it is a O2 sensor since that is a very common thing with maximas. Are there any signs that a O2 sensor needs to be replaced? What are the affects of not replacing a O2 sensor if it or they do go out?
Thanks

That's odd that you could not get the Code to come out of the computer. It may be a faulty reader, or it was not plugged in completely.
In my case I got the P0420 Code which was in a Service Bulletin. I was past warranty (up to 80K), so had to pay for it.
It was $98 for them just to scope the car (which is a rip, but...)
Anyway, my Bank 1 (rear) Pre-Cat was bad. Retail on parts is $630. I bought mine from a Nissan Dealership (DirectNissanParts.com) in AZ that UPS'd them to me for $475, and paid a friend $100 to install, as opposed to $250 from the dealer.
I too hoped for only an O2 sensor. =\
