Rattling sound...

What up...my sister has a 2000 I30t same engine as our...she has recently noticed a rattling sound when she accelerates from standing...but after that it goes away....has anyone experienced this? She took it to the Infiniti Stealership and they found no problems( stupid ) and no codes. Any ideas what it could be, she's rolling onto 86k...could it be the timing chain?

Thanks....

Im just guessing here, but might be a heat shield on the exhaust system.

double the heat sheild! it will usually make noise when you're either idling or accelerating. Its a very metalic noise, almost like a muffled sound of two screw-drivers hitting together.
Check that out and give us a holler.

I had a rattle at acceleration & idle when I bought my MAX - turned out that the heat shield needed adjustment.

Why do heat shields rattle like that? Are they loose or something? How can they be tightened?

yeah, they get loose, all you have to do it tighten them. I believe some cars have them sitting on rubber gromets, so i would replace those. Otherwise, just give it a good tighening. The reason the shake loose, i believe, has to do with the fact thats its a thin peice of metal with a large surface area the gets shaken from the vibrations of motor/road irregularities, and the contraction and expansion due to heat.
