P1572 and P0138 Service Engine Codes

I threw a service engine light today and got these codes pulled at a local auto parts store. The first code is an Idle Speed Control and the second is an O2 sensor high voltage code.

Can anyone please explain in a bit more detail what these codes mean and if I can just clear them and be done with it, or is it something that needs to be fixed. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My 4 Gen pull a P0138 not too long ago. After about little over a week the CEL gone away by itself. So I figure it is ok now.

I did noticed that few weeks before the P0138 CEL came up, my gas mileage was ~ 24MPG (50/50 city, highway), which was about one MPG less then before. After the CEL light gone way, now my mileage is backup to ~ 25MPG. Both mileage were calculated over an interval of 1000 miles.

P1572

Cause: When going faster than 19 MPH, the ECU receives an ON signal from the stop lamp switch and the ASCD brake switch at the same time.

P1572 - Fixes:
1) Harness or connectors for the stop lamp (shorted or open circuit)
2) Harness or connectors for the ASCD brake switch (shorted or open circuit)
3) ASCD brake switch
4) Stop lamp switch
5) Harness or connectors for the switch circuits (shorted or open)
6) Incorrect stop lamp installation
7) Incorrect ASCD brake switch installation
8) ECM

P0138

Cause: Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 (Bank 1 in this case) is sending high voltage back to the ECU.

Fixes:
1) Harness or connectors (sensor circuit shorted or open)
2) Bad O2 sensor

I had SES light ON. P0138 Code came up. Mechanic took it off but said SES light may come back. It has not come back yet but wondering how important it is to replace the heated 02 sensor bank 1 sensor 2. Can I drive my car to work and stuff until I find the part on ebay?
Also, I checked eBay, the part goes for $20 dollars or so depending on the brand. I'm not sure if I was looking at the right part. If someone post a an eBay link here to the right part, I'll appreciate that.

Please help out. I really hope someone answers my question.

Hey 03,

I drive an 02 I35 and got the same code as you do. The full information on this SES light is as follows:

P0138 (Bank 1) H02S2 (Rear) (Max Voltage Monitoring).
Bank -1 Rear Oxygen Sensor - Part # 226A0-5Y701

Already had this code come up a few times on my car and had it reset as well on all occasions. Did not notice a difference in performance accept the local autozone guy said my fuel economy may suffer. Of course the stealerships are trying to charge me up to $400 but I know I could get the sensors and install them myself for about $100 at most. As for ebay, you may see some cheap universal fit one's. I would not recommend them not only because the connectors are either missing or incorrect but also the thread fit as well. Go for OEM classified one's (could be different brand then the Denzo's we have installed already). I am going to change mine soon before the cold weather hits and since I am getting tired of the SES coming up all the time.
