Damn, I just got my car tinted today..
I went to a place my friend who shall remain unamed suffice to say that he is on this board *COUGH COUGH* referred me to. I got the tint for only $100 and figured I got a pretty good deal. Well two hours later I come to pick my car up and it looks fine on initial inspection. Unfortunately the place was kinda dark inside, and when I drove off I noticed a BIG bubble in my rear winshield. When I got back to work and parked my car i found that I had bubbles all over the place!! ARG. So I call the guy and he says he'll fix it for me just bring it in, so I'm going back in tomorrow but man am I pissed.. Does anyone know what I should look for when I get my car tinted? Also, anyone have any advice on how to make sure he does a good job? I guess you really do get what you pay for.. I hope I don't end up spending twice as much money and time to get it right in the end ..

Well that is just the work of a crappy application job, which most all tint shops fix free of charge. If they still do a crappy job, Im sure they will remove it for you free of charge so you can start over again at a better tint shop. BTW, did you get the lifetime tint?

that sucks man!

A similiar thing happened to me.

I got my tint, and when I got the car back, there were bubbles and streaks. You can imagien how mad pissed I was.
I don't think i have as much bubbles as you, but I have my fair share of them.

I used a credit card to squeeze out the big ones, and those small tiny ones, there is nothing you can do about them.

I took the car to the tinting place, and all they did was say **** like this:

1) the bubbles are there because of the shop dust. It was enevitable.
2)they will go away as the weather warms up.
3)It is NORMAL!!

This is my second tint by the way. I took off the first one becasue it was too greenish.

So this is how much it cost me to get the tint, and it's not even a good tint!

1) $160 orginal tint
2) $60 taking the orgnianal tint off
3) $160 getting the second tint.

If you really that much bubble, have them take it off. It is part of the application process, and once the tint is on, the bubbles CANNOT be reversed.

Is there water still under the tint? If there is water in there, then you are still ok. There can be "bubbles" all over the place under the tint, and if water is under them you don't have that much to worry about. The tint is kinda pourous (sp) so the water can evaporate. Park you car so that the sun hits the back window for the majority of the day. The extra heat on there will take the bubble out, and get rid of all the excess water. Or if you aren't patient take a heat gun and a driver's license or something flat and go to work! The heat will drive out the water, and the license will allow you to push the pubble down and get the tint's adhesive to stick to the window.

A good tint job, guaranteed in WA at least will cost $250 for the life time metalic film. Mine was done perfect the first time, so I guess you get what you pay for.Out of the seven windows tinted I have 2 very small bubbles which I ignore. Not worth redoing. When they say the sun will remove the bubbles, this is BS to get you out the door.
They did cover the antenna in the rear window which had to be cut off, but that was there only screw up.
Remember to clean the film with a non-alcohol cleaner.
I dilute the orange cleaner with 50% water in a spray bottle and it works great.

Well I'm no professional window tinter, but I can say from past experiences when I tinted my own windows that the sun will take care of bubbles. It's not BS, because I have experienced it first hand. Now bubbles that that have been there for 1 month and not worked on will not, but fresh tinted windows with water filled bubbles, can be helped by the sun!!!! That water will evaporate and the tint will adhere to the window.

Now if that's BS then something sure went wrong when it happened on my first truck, second truck, girlfriends car, mom's car, dad's truck, and my maxima. (of those listed the Max was the only car I didn't do myself) Guess I'm luckier than I thought ... maybe I should buy my own lotto tickets!

My windows were tinted perfect the first time, I have yet to find any imperfections. The tint shop used formula 1 tint and it looks great. A good tint job can be associated with the price, less expensive = crappy or more expensive = good.

It is water in between the tint and the glass. Give it a couple of days to evaporate. It will get better

sorry to hear about that dude.. the I've had quite a few experiences with Tint Shops... it's tough to find one that does a really good job, and even after the inital tint is applied (the same day or two after) you can still find imperfections (which in my case went away). I agree with everyone with the waterbubbles.. if they're small.. don't worry about them but, but i understand your pain in the matter. i mean, for example, my back window after being tinted took 5days before it was perfectly clear. regardless, hope everything works out for you.

I challenge you to find ONE single imperfection in my tint.
Anyone in the NJ are I HIGHLY reccomend the place i went.
Its called ODS "On the Dark Side" in Lakewood, NJ.
From the day i got it done i could not find a single bubble or imperfection whatsoever...
All windows were done with a single piece of tint...
If the guy has to use strips he doesnt know what he's doing.
This place will remove door panels, rear decks, etc to make sure it is 100% perfect!
I paid $225 for all the windows to be tinted in the top quality 20% metallic tint.

The tint job on my max is excellent.
I also got my old Accord done by the same guy
5 years ago and it's still flawless.
Cost me $190 for the Max (all windows including
moonroof)... $125 for the Accord.
If you're in Orange County, CA, I'd highly recommend
TINT PERFECTION. Wait list is about 3 weeks...
the twist is that they don't advertise... business
runs solely on word of mouth.

Thanks for all the replies guys, i'm taking it back tomorrow to get looked at, most of the small bubbles have worked themselves out, what i'm concerned with is there's scratches already on some of the tint and there is one huge fold in the middle of my rear windshield... I am in orange county CA.. I called the guy and he said to take it back and they offer a 2 year warrantee, but overall if i get fed up with the quality of the job i may try that place jashick
