5th Gen Satellite install???

Just wondering whats the best/cheapest way to hook up the xm/sirius system in our max? Kind of want to keep the factory head unit in so I can still use the steering wheel controls, can u just buy the plug and play thing and hook it up to the oem unit? any suggestions would be awesome...also opinions on xm or sirius?

I have XM, it's great. However, now that I know you can get Sirus over the internet, I'd probably go that route.

Anyways, both services have equipment that will use an FM modulator to connect through your factory radio antenna connection.

Definitely get it~!

No. I think in real life terms it's something like 96kbps vs cd being 192ish (not compensating for encoding loss). Though you can't really tell much of a difference.

when people ask how the quality is, i always just try to explain that its not as bad as the radio, but not as good as a cd. Pretty much if depends on how you hook it up too. XM just came out with alot of equipment, like the roady2 and the plug in cigarette lighter fm transmitter. Check out both Sirius and XM, look in the books and see which one has more of the music you listen too... something else to think about is Obey and anthony are on Xm starting oct 2nd, but you have to pay an extra 1.99 to listen to them

Way way better then radio and unless you have a high quality system...close enough to CD. My sub is no bass monster and it barely thumps on the radio, but on XM it bumps great.

I have Polk tweets, stock mids, stock deck, and an Infinity 10" sub and I can't tell the difference on bass or highs. My mids suck, so can't tell on those.

As far as programming, you'll have to see (and listen) to what both providers have to offer and make a choice. Based upon which provider you choose, you'll then want to pick equipment that meets your needs.

Alot of people do it the other way around, which in my opinion is the wrong way. If you buy/obtain the equipment and then get the service, you may not get what you wanted, as far as radio service.

Keep in mind that the sound quality of the satellite signal also depends on the HU that it's hooked up to. If you hook it up to the stock Bose system, it probably will sound similar to the radio. However, if you hook it up to something like the Kenwood 911 or 915 series DVD HUs, you'll notice that it's much better.

Good point...

You can go to Sirus.com and try its service for 3-days free over the net. Then go to BestBuy or even Walmart and check out XM service on their demo equipment.
