new soundproofing method...

Haven't seen anyone do this, so decided to give it a try...
I'm sure many have noticed that, especially in sandy/gravel roads or roads with road salt in the winter, the stuff is REALLY loud spraying against the wheelwells....I got in there and noticed the front wheel wells are covered with just a plastic shell....what the hell? no wonder it's so loud. So.....

I took the shell out (kind of a pain to do, but not too hard..) and sprayed the backside (i.e. the "inside") with rubberized undercoating. No point in spraying the outside, since it will all get blasted off by road debris.....

anyhow...the result - and of course this may be just my perception and not scientifically tested - the car seems quieter in terms of less noise from rocks, sand, rain, etc....hitting the inner wheelwell. The undercoating seems to have deadened the noise some.

nothing big, but the small things all add up in the end I suppose...
kind of hard to see the undercoating, but here's what the piece looks like...

now...just wish the splashguards behind the wheels were a little longer....they don't really block much mud/rocks from hitting behind the wheels....that makes alot of noise too.

Nice work, irish. I'll have to try that. I've been thinking about ways to decrease some road noise.

I wonder if spraying that inside the doors would help, too?? I've been trying to think of a cheaper alternative to Dynamat. I was trying to stay away from the 'peel and seal' roofing stuff cause of the possibility of it's odor when it gets hot.
