Weird thing about 02 Maxima 6-speed & Carfax

Here is the deal, I found this 2002 6-speed and the seller gave me the VIN. After that he tells me that when you will run the VIN through Carfax, the car will come up as an AT although it's a 6-speed. Any idea on why that might be?

First, Carfax isn't always true and holy my moms old Infiniti I30 had a salvage/rebuilt title and it didn't show up on carfax until 12 months later!!!!

Next, possibly a tranny swap done? Ask the seller if he is 1st or if he knows whether or not something has been done to it?

That seller is the original owner of that car and no tranny swap had been done.

Is it supposed to actually show you the transmission type? I'm looking at not one but 3 CARFAX printouts right now and none of them mentions if it's an auto or manual. It doesn't even show you the trim on Maximas, let alone if it's manual. I would believe the VIN doesn't contain information about the transmission type.

Thank you for the info, although one question? Do you have unlimited accest to the Carfax, if so any chance you can run one VIN for me?

Thank you, Andrei

No, unfortunately I don't have access..maybe you should look at other places like automotiveforums or any of the other car forums, or if you know anyone that works at a dealership.

Edit: maybe here http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=875421

Yeah my other car was stolen and recovered totalled 2 months later. Well I ran carfax and it came back clean 6 months after I the car was recovered from the police! So my guess is that this information is not reported until you go for inspection. You could delay inspection for several months and Carfax would not know. By that time someone else probably owns it

Have the owner send your the Tranxale code, found in the engine compartment by the Brake master cylinder. That will ID the tranny 100%.
Some VINs (like SAAB for example) specify what tranny is in the car. SAAB VIN 7th digit is the tranny 5-5speed, 6-6speed, 9-Auto....so it depends on the manufacturer.

I am sorry miss, that's my fault. Right before I start typing bro, there was something inside of me that clicked, and I stoped typing. But just a second later I finished my sentance without even thinking about it. I feel like an idiot right now. Anyhow thanx for that briliant idea sis.

I remember seeing something in the Canadian forums that leads me to think there's a way to tell.

But.. I just found this and unless I'm terribly sleepy, I don't see transmission type:
