What type of navigation does the 5th gen max have? My uncle has a new honda pilot and the navigation system uses the GPS in the side window. No cd/dvd needed. My friends dad 2002 S430 runs it on cd. You can tell on newer cars if they have navigation (most of the time) by looking for the fin or box on the roof or trunk. Does the max have that also? Thanks.

 

5th gen has a cd nav. (at least that is what my I30 has) The Honda Pilot has DVD Navigation. On my car there is a black piece that sits on the back deck. Its nearly flush so you don't know its there.

I'm guessing thats what it is since I haven't seen it on non nav cars.

 

I have an 03 with Navi and I don't have a fin of any type that I know of, maybe it is hidden some where?

 

I have the nav cd system in my 02-03 and its hidden antenna is in the dash behind the guage cluster.. unlike those wack *** benz and gm;s there is absolutley no antennas at all.. NONE not for radio nav or XM. whos yohh daddy.

 

When I say back deck I mean right behind the bose sub, not on the outside of the car. (parcel shelf I guess) They probably moved it after 01.

 

The fins are for XM or Sirius satellite radio. The antenna in the Pilot might be in the rear window for the GPS but it still has to have software on a DVD or CD (although a hard drive based satellite upgradeable system would be ideal for all the new roads [re: daily] in Vegas). The 5th generation Maxima used a CD based navigation system that requires multiple CDs to map the entire country (6 I think).
