Quick question concerning tailights

I just found the site and would appreciate any help or advice! My wife's 2002 SE has a taillight malfunction. Everything else working properly (hazards, blinkers, taglight, fog and headlamps, turn signals, brake lights, rear side lights) all working but no tailights. Fuses OK. Any ideas before I have to go get "hosed" by dealership? Everything totally stock, no modifications! Thanks in advance!

check that the bulbs are in there securely. I had the problem of my taillights going out all the time and found that I wasn't getting thebulbs in there all the way. They should make a secure "click" when you put them in all the way. If they don't click, they will still stay there, but will eventually rattle loose...

Thanks irish

I will try , but I do not think that is the problem. I have not had to make any bulb changes, unless they have just rattled loose all of the sudden(both at the same time). I do appreciate the advice and suggestion.

while you are checking the bulbs, also check the plugs. un-plug the harness, use a hair dryer on the connectors, and plug it back. if not these 2, take it to the dealer

New update, very strange!! I checked all the connectors and wires, which all appear to be tight and secure. I did this after finding out that I could, "slap" the lens on the outside and the lights would come on(with the light switch on of course). The drivers side will come on regularly now, but the passenger side needs to be bumped on occasion to make it come on. Filaments in bulbs appear to be fine. Very strange that they both started acting up at the same time. There almost has to be something loose somewhere, but I cannot find it. Not sure if any kind of diagnostic test would locate either!! Thank again for the responses and ideas. Nissan still #1 in my book!!

same thing happened to me. Driver side tails are ok. Passenger doesn't light up when i turn the headlights on. I just wiggled the harness from the inside and it started working. It messed up 2 times in the past 7 months. Didn't really fix the problem though, i think 2k max's have a problem with the connection/harness for passenger tails.
Just check it every couple weeks & give it a b.i.t.c.h slap on the a.s.s if she needs one.

Spray some contact cleaner in there (the electronic kind, not saline) and change the bulbs. Two of my sidemarkers went out at the same time - it's unlikely but definately possible.

anyone figure out how to fix this?
I just checked tonight and my passenger taillight is out. Everything works except the passenger taillight when i turn the headlights, doesn't light up. brakes (which is the same bulb as the taillight), signal, and rear lights work fine.

I tried doing a bunch of stuff but it just won't light up when i turn the headlights on!!!!

Why will the bulb work when i brake but not when i turn headlights on?

how do i check the fuse? DETAIL EXPLAINATION FOR A NEWBIE LIKE MYSELF.

Thanks

The bulb you are talking about is a dual filament bulb. Most likely one of the filaments is burned out. Buy a new bulb!

no it wasn't that i didn't push hard enough, one of the filiments in the taillight bulb was broken. I pushed REALLY REALLY hard too...didn't know they had 2 filiments till someone on this org pointed it out. Never noticed. Anyways i changed the bulb with a spare i had in my glove campartment. Works like a charm. i twisted all the harness's and wires and banged on the taillight & pushed really hard on the contacts with the bulb...hope i didn't do any damage cause i was really frustrated.

Thanks MAXINXS and guys... dual filiment...laf @ me
