Got rear-ended, need help

Recently the 03 got rear ended twice in two days and it just got out of the bodyshop. Both were only minor damage. The bumper cover is replaced and repainted.

There's something that's bothering me tho.
Is there 2-3" of free space between the bumper cover and the actual bumper re-bar? I can push on the cover and it will just flex until it hits something solid 2-3" in. I don't recall it's like that before. Is it normal?

Thanks in advance.

I think the aftermarket bumper covers that they put on have more flex to them. Not as strong as the factory ones.

It's an OEM bumper. Same flexibilty.

What worries me is the 'free space" between the bumper cover and bumper re-bar. Is it suppose to be there?

I just mention the flexibility because I'm getting a new bumper for $120 through my mechanic - OEM style, but not from Nissan - He said that sometimes it's not as strong.
The space in my car that was between the bumper cover and the bar was filled with a layer of styrofoam.

Can someone please try to push it your rear bumper with your hand and tell me is there any free space (2-3") between the bumper cover and actual bumper?

Thanks a lot.

I was rear-ended too a year ago and my bumber was replaced with a genuine Nissan one. Feels solid to me.

That is not normal. I was rearended a few days ago and there is definitely more flex now than there was before. I have yet to get it fixed, but that's the first thing I noticed when examining the bumper closer.
