CAI Intakes

If search were working, this would not have been asked.

Is there any real performance difference in the Place Racing and Injen CAI's?

I have bene looking for some info but thats proving to be too hard to find. I saw some pics, and it seems the Injen has multiple bends and looks more fluid, and the PR has just 1 bend and looks stiff. Could an extra bend make a performace hit?

Probably not a difference based on the bends. But there should be a difference based on temperature--an Injen might not perform optimally in warm weather, especially with stop'n'go driving. A Place Racing CAI should stay cool.

Place Racing is more difficult to install due to the fact that you have to cut a hole in the fender and relocate the fusebox a little, plus remove the battery. So there are ups and downs of the 2. I recently bought a used PR CAI, but right now I have it installed as a short pipe (in fact, I'm not even using the midpipe; just the MAF adapter alone... the midpipe is too loud, especially with my recent exhaust leak making more noise). I'm planning to do the full install by this weekend hopefully.

i want the INGEN , but all the rain water scares me. i wish we could get hood scoops. they are just soooo ricey though. i have been thinking on scoops that can be closed when it rains and in the winter. it is just sooooo damn hot in the engine bay...

I just talked to Steve at SWA and he told me that the PR CAI needs a whole cut in the fender while the Injen does not. he said the injen sits near the radiator under the battery. So I am guessing that the cooler air of the PR should yield more performance... and I am thinking minimal if any at best.

Yep. About that cutout--if you buy a used PR CAI and don't have the cutout, see my thread here: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=331882
You can email Place Racing for a copy of the template, and that thread has a link to the DesignCAD viewer program for viewing the file they send you (must use Windows to view it, and you should print it out with "Fit to Page" disabled so it prints out at the correct dimensions without zooming)

How about if someone doesn't want to go to the extreme of modding the fender, is the Injen the next best bet? I've heard that Berk is the way to go.

Ya I am still having a tough time deciding if I want to cut the hole for the PR or not.... so far I am leaning to cutting the hole and using the PR for the benefit of cooler air.....

Yeah, you might as well get the Injen if you don't wanna cut the fender. At least you'll receive cold air some of the time.

For the love of god an injen will NOT take in water unless you're driving through 18" of water, and if you do that you've got bigger problems.

.........and if you live in a flood zone, get a $40 bypass valve to 100% guarantee it won't happen.

I have a 2k2 with an Injen. Performance wise, I can feel some power in the mid range as most stated. I bought the Injen because it was a better deal with the group buy. You won't have to worry about water unless you drive through 18" of it as stated before because the filter is shielded by a plastic piece. I really like the way the Berks looks and it is cheaper. I have read may posts about CAI and since I think this is one of the cheapest and easiest mod, I did it.

for the 34938743 times that this has been discussed.. injen cai is NOT a CAI..
having a filter hide behind the radiator is not considered cai.. same temperature as engine..

PR is true CAI..
plus the temp from engine and outside weather is only a difference of 2-5 degrees

BERK technology has the proofs

Dont forget about a weapon r. Less cost and for an intake it, really diameter is all that counts compared to crappy stock. Some people have built their own intakes from home. Its just air to the engine.

....and for the 34938744 time the filter is NOT behind the radiator, it's below and beside it.
