I wasn't having the problems that you are experiencing, but I had the induction service done and my Max seemed to generally run better. More responsive, better power. Induction service was good for my Max but might not solve your problem.

what is induction service? is that done by nissan? they charge too much for most service but a mechanic there said since i went intake, theres a lot more air related things that should be changed than just the ECU. I think he was full of it, more money for them.

Induction service cleans the throttle body and the injectors. I paid $99 a year ago. I just got a coupon from Nissan and it's up $125 now. Probably too expensive, but it really helped my Max. I might just try some BG44K (not sure of spelling) next time.

It is most likely your VAIS. There was a thread for this exact problem and how to check it a while back. Later today, I'm sure you'll get some more precise feedback.

look under the FAQ and HOW-2 section. There is a thread about the VIAS.

i had a similar problem. changed the MAF and plugs, and it is fine now. checking the VIAS is not hard. i checked the VIAS before buying the MAF. you can also try and clean the maf.
