Steering Bump Stop

When I have my steering wheel at full crank turning left and my 2001 Maxima makes one of the worst sounds I have ever heard...it sounds like metal on metal screeching for a second or so. Any ideas on what this is? My local dealer diagnosed it over the phone as a steering bump stop that needs lubrication...any thoughts?
