In the northeast, Nissan did the Data Dot recall. Not sure if they've done the recall in other areas.

If a thief really wanted your HIDs or anything for that matter, they will steal it

There's a Nissan TSB link somewhere here on the sticky's. I don't know off hand. But I'm surprised you guys don't know about this. If you went to Nissan dealer, they can tell you.

I slobbed jbweld all over the bolt heads mounting the headlights to the frame, and then all over the frame to the headlight brackets. I don't know if this will prevent theft, but I think it will make it more difficult to take them, the headlight assemblies themselves. As for what if I need to remove the assembly, well I think that would be in an accident and everything will be afu anyway.

just go to your dealer and tell them you heard about lots of HIDs being stolen in parts of the country, and you know nissan had a fix that secured them better. tell them you were concerned in your area and wanted to know if the fix/TSB was available to you. just in case, have a copy of the TSB on you.

yeah, guys, I did a quick search of the stickies and then of the entire forum in general and don't really see any information on where to print out the TSB or how to get it done and what EXACTLY it involves. If anyone could provide a link or picture or any other information, I'd really appreciate it. I've asked a dealer up by me to do it and they looked at me like I have four heads. Meanwhile they do know that the HID theft is a problem. Please help! I've got an alarm but want some additional insurance!

Thanks... but I've seen that before and actually ordered it. When I ordered it, I was naive and hadn't done my research. Apparently this anti-theft kit is different than the datadots? I figured that I'd buy the anti-theft kit and install it myself but I've since heard that the datadots are better... plus they're free Don't get me wrong... not trying to be a cheapass (just dropped a load on an alarm for the car and spent the money on the anti-theft kit... whatever it takes to protect those precious HID's!) but trying to get what's best. Do you or does anyone have any info specific to the datadots? TIA

The Data Dots recall is not the same as the brackets available to purchase. It should be done free of charge if you live in the affected areas of the recall/TSB. They basically anchor the lights with stronger metal brackets and put serial numbers (Data Dots) on the lights, ballasts and door frame to link the car to the lights if the thief is ever caught. Although it does not prevent theft, it will slow the thief down. But on the negative end of this they will do more damage to your car in the attempt.

How to prevent HID Theft?

you can always just blame Nissan and say it is their fault...you know, instead of the thief that stole them. then the theft will stop all together

Unecessary comment. The thread was on how to prevent theft, no one was railing on Nissan.

the irony of these HID theft protection measures is that they'll still attempt to ******. And because they'd be so well bolted in, it'll probably mean you'd keep your HIDs but then have some sizeable body damage as well. Lose-lose scenario on that.

I had datadots done and brackets installed for my HIDs six months ago by the Nissan dealer. Since this campaign/recall started in the NE, I believe the number of HID thefts has substantially decreased.

If you don't live in the NE and your dealer does not want to do the recall/campaign for free, at least ask the dealer to put the datadot stickers on your HIDs, and hope that the thieves would not touch your car! Although I don't have any empirical evidence, I believe many thieves are aware of the datadots program and would not want to mess those "protected" HIDs.

I am curious about those numbers as well. You have to figrure that there was a learning curve for the thiefs. Hopefully they are realizing that they are much harder to steal now, and are pretty much unable to get the ballast now because of the brackets...yeah, yeah i know if they want it they will get it, but they better be prepared to spend quite a bit of time, and we all know time is a thieves worst enemy.

ehmm...

a gigantic pistol would scare em away ; ) ehh... Maybe not a great idea, but imagine the look on their faces if you pulled out a desert eagle .

Nah, nothing u can do, this is the problem we face, and if they get jacked (happened to me and everyone) you always have your insurance, just pay the deductable, which is far less then a new set. Let's hope this died down a bit recently, mine were jacked in spring, and my DDE's installed don't exactly help the matter.

I won't live scared though, a car is an object, things happen.

Anyone have a link (again) ?!? ... asked two dealers so far in NY and NJ and neither of them knew what I was talking about. SOMEONE has GOT to have a link to a TSB or info on how to get them somewhere. Please!?

If you are the original owner of the 5.5 gen Max and you have a registered address in the NE (NJ, NY or CT), you should have received a recall notice from Nissan telling you to go to your dealer for the fix. All dealers in the NE know and should have known about the recall.
