Matt Blehm, step inside...

Matt, just reposting something that I posted for the benefit of our 5.5th gen brethren in another thread that you probably wouldn't read, so figured I'd posted it here. It's in regard to HID theft, and since you're the custom fabrication king thought you might have some input.

I always thought a good idea would be to have a metal "box" of sorts custom made to surround the entire headlight (the box would epoxy/attach to the back lip of the lens and surround the whole back end so nobody could unscrew it or wedge a crowbar in there)....just leave an opening in the back of the box for bulb changes. Yeah, it would make it really hard for you to get the lights out, but how often do you take the entire headlight out, really, unless you're stealing it.

I'd love to try it, but I have the good ol halogens so not gonna waste my time. On the other hand...if someone wants to give me some HIDs, I will be sure to get something fabricated and share the knowledge/design with everyone else

Just a thought - might want to contact Matt93SE (matt blehm) and see if perhaps he can fabricate something like that...he's pretty damn good at fabrication and design and on his website he says something like he's willing to take on projects if nobody else is doing them and if there's a demand....this could certainly be a great thing for 5.5th genners and other i30/35 HID guys, and possibly very profitable for Matt as well.....

I find it hard to believe that this is SUCH a difficult thing to do that nobody is willing to try - especially considering the guys who have had their HIDs stolen multiple times.....hell who knows, you come up with something that works, patent it or whatever, and sell direct to Nissan for your first million $$.....

so either someone can do something constructive, or everyone can just keep complaining, *****ing, filing stupid lawsuits against Nissan that won't work, and getting HIDs stolen.

Zippin don't be a "hater" ...just bc you and me aren't resourceful enough to do this project doesn't mean someone isn't.....

haha how true....nah Jason's my boy....we make up about 50% of the NoVa 5th gen crew (though we have a few new 5th gens around here)...sooner has no internet at home so he has to use the "community center" computer but he did show me how to do the blue lighting mod so he gets his props there!

Hmmm, do I smell $$?

Next time I get my hands on a 5th gen, I'll take a looksee at it and see if I can come up with something. the main thing I'm concerned about is that anything that will be strong enought o keep them from prying the tabs off will either hit the hood or be very ugly.. (If nissan would just design the lights so the bolt in from the back like the 3rd gens, then it would be a non-issue...) but I'll see if I can come up with something.

close to 100% now that my maxima is gone.

regarding the lights, i think it would be great, im not sure what did nissan use when they issued that "recall" about theft. but anyway, it would be a huge market for it up in NYC/NJ area.

As widespread as this type of theft has become this type of thing would most likely result in much more damage to your car. If the theives target your car they'll have no idea that you got this under the hood and just try to pry harder with the crowbar...

EXACTLY...I'd rather have Matt invent a button that says "PRESS HERE" and they pop off into their hands vs. crowbaring the hood, fenders, and bumper.

Anything more difficult to remove will cost you more time on body shop work.

My thoughts exactly. why go though so much effort and custom fabrication just some a theif can destroy the exterior of the car just to find out that he can't get the headlights out?

Don't get me wrong, it is great that you guys have new idea's and what not, but i know that i would not buy it if it was made. on the plus side, since the person is working so hard to try and get out the lights, and can't succed, it may give someone enough time to realize what the guy is trying to do, so you could catch the theif. but, also you never know if the guy has a gun or something...

just my thoughts..
