PR or Cattman CAI
PR or Cattman CAI
The Cattman is 20 bucks cheaper than the PR CAI . They are both the type which need you to drill a 3.5" hole in your fender. Before I buy one of these, any reason to go with the more expensive PR?
From what I can see, the PR has an extra bend in the tubing and the cattman does not. They seem to use the same filter element.
Here is a pic of the PR:

And one of the Cattman:

Any pros/cons for either of these before I buy would be madd helpful.
Thanks.

well the pros are that it gets cooler air from the fender but the cons are that you have to cut a hole in your fender and if its wet outside its a very high possibility that the intake will suck in water and stall the motor....
soo, i would go with a regular intake unless it never rains where youre at

i heard for the intake to suck water in the engine and sieze it...the whole filter has to be submerged in water...is that true???....i had an aem cai on my old honda..drove in the rain plenty of times..no problems at all

On top of that, with mine, the PR CAI's actual opening for the filter seems to curve back a little towards the back... that might make it a little more difficult for water to get in.

Injen makes a splash guard for their CAI and AEM has an air-bypass valve for theirs, you might wanna check if Cattman or PR has something similar if that's what you're concerned about... I went with a Berk in the end, so I can't tell ya much more about CAIs...
I had a AEM Bypas valve cut into my PR intake for peace of mind and it definitely takes away some power bc its just foam in middle with a plastic piece that lets air escape..i replaced it with a straight piece of piping and it it louder and also more effective now . . . I woudn't worry about the water thing...i used to when i was ignorant but now i realize that you would have to be driving through an extremely extremely very very deep puddle for that filter to ever have a chance of being completely submerged (which is the ONLY time the bypass valve will do anything) so once again i wouldn't lose sleep over that and from my experience it hurt the performance as well . . . and if there's a flood i assume you wouldn't be driving your car anyways.

I never thought about the extra bend in the Cattman being to push the filter further away from the possibility of getting wet. That makes lots of sense. I have read many bad things about bypass valves when it comes to performance. I live in Austin, TX and it rains out here regularly, but it never floods in the parts I frequent so I dont thing hydrolock will be of any concern.
The Cattman it is! Now if I can find a group deal or a discount! hahahah....
Thanks!
