Autocross
Does anyone autocross in their 5th Gen?
How did you do on your first time.
If so what kind of times did you run and with what mods and tire pressure?
I ran today for the first time. I was in the novice group.
It was a blast. I plan on going everytime for now on. I really messed up on the first run and ended up with a 57 sec run. On the next I had a 50. Now on the third I hit two cones on the slalom and they added 4 seconds to my time which put me at 50 sec again. The last run I didn't run hard because the car was rolling on the side wall of the tires really bad. I only had 36 psi in the tires and that is why I had such bad times. I was later told that I needed about 40-42 psi. I also had a passenger on all the runs.
The best time out there was run by this girl in a Lexus IS, but I don't remember her time. The average time out there was 45-50 second.
All of yall should try this.
Autocross is the most fun I ever had in a car (legaly).

I've did it before, I liked it but I like road racing better. You should be able to keep right up with the girl in the Lexus Is-300 because the pull .82g's (same as the maxima, isn't that ironic) anyways the only thing you really have to worry about is when you pump up your tire pressure (ex.43 psi) you will have the tail of your car starting to fishtail(no biggy just take your foot off the gas and slam the gas on again)not telling you how to drive just a tip if needed. Anyways, you should try road racing too.
The maxima is too big to autoX. That is my overall impressive. Even with the Stillen Rear sway bar, it just doesn't pivot the way it should. The solid rear axle is really noticable on those low speed turns. Plus, the IS300 is RWD...that's why it's more potent than a Maxima. Easier to get the rear end around.
Road racing...I haven't run my Maxima with the rear sway bar on a road course YET...but, even without it, it was DEFINITELY more suited for road racing than autocrossing. It's just more solid at higher speeds.
I ran my Maxima and still beat 60% of the other drivers (about 70 drivers)...but, it wasn't as fun to drive as my CRX on race tires (beating all but 6 drivers)

You're right, the Maxima IS too big but it's still competitive in some classes. I autoX'd several times last year and even with the stock 15" wheels and allseason tires managed to be middle of the pack or better against Integras and Civics. I even took home a small trophy in Novice class. But I'm just out there to have fun. Ya gotta run what ya brung and the Maxima is all I got.

Good start blockburna! X-cross can be addictive.
Your tires and grip are THE most important area to focus on. Last year I started with 50lbs/42lbs just to be safe. Now I'm down to 38/36 as I get better and prevent the rolling.
Try the shoe polish/chalk tip on the tires. Mark 2-3 small vertical lines at the edge of the tread down the sidewall an inch or so (before you run). Then as the sidewalls roll you can see exactly how much more/less air to adjust.
Who says the Maxima isn't competitive for X-cross ? Just give me a cold day when nobody else has grip either!
