Changing Color of Clock/AC
Changing Color of Clock/AC
today i changed the color of my stock head unit to light up blue instead of the normal green. does anybody know how to change the color on the AC controls on an 01 as well as the clock? thats the only parts i couldnt get.
you mean like this?

they should come apart as the same assembly.. The climate control has 4 small silver screws on the back that you have to take off, and black plastic clips on the top and bottom lip....then you do it the same way...

more pics on my webpage...sorry they're so small.

yeah irish, i used your pics as a guideline and they were a big help but i couldnt understand why my AC controls are different from yours. i dont have a digital display, just a ****, the slider to adjust hot/cold, and a few preference buttons
b/c you have a manunl control instead of auto one....same as mine... can you open it up and change to blue bulb? so the bottoms light up as blue at night instead of greenish white

The bulbs on the manual control are not your regular instrument bulb 74. They are different bulbs with the wires coming out the back and wrapped around a small gray screw-in holder. The contact is made with the circuit board and the wire that is wrapped the holder. Not sure what type of bulb those are. Would like to find out cause they need to match the rest of my interior. As far as the light that shines down on the console, it is a bulb #74. I did have a blue incadescent bulb in there before but the thing barely shined. I ordered some blue leds with the flat top-so most of the light comes out the end, and cut out the center piece of plastic between the two openings. The blue led is crazy bright and shines perfectly on the console. A 200% increase over the regular incadescent bulb.
I got the incadescent and led #74 bulb from http://stores.ebay.com/CTLumination.
I don't have any pics, unfortunately I don't have a digital camera. I really wish I did.

Nope, here is the link. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting
I have pics of LED's in the manual AC controls on my homepage. I sautered LED's with resistors directly to the board. I finally finished all my lighting with led's. By the way what color of plastic wrap is used to change the clock to blue?
ok..i opened up my A/C (nonclimate control) so i have 3 little bulbs...how do i take them out of the grey screw holder? i have to bend the wire in order to take them out? this is really difficult to discribe without pic ...sad i don't have digi cam...

Oh and does the blue in reality look factory or
?
ok as i thought..I removed the little bulb out...also took of the condom. There's one thing i found out that the little bulb with condom is as thick as 74 bulb. the difference is that 74 bulb has plastic wrapped the wires from the fliment but the little bulb don't. I'm thinking maybe we could make 74 bulb fit in the screw socket by cut off the plastic on the bulb and make the wires move freely as the little bulb. Therefore, we could use 74 bulb in the socket and lit up our bitXh A/C. It's gonna be kind of difficult since bulb is too small to cut nicely....should I be the guinea pig?
