2002 K&N filter MIL

I'm sure this has been covered but did not see it.

I just replaced the filter on my maxima gle with the K&N filter and got a good response from it but after a few days now my mil is on and it is error code p1147 which is something about manuf air ... something. I was wondering if anyone else has the same trouble after replaceing the air filter?

Welcome to the club. A lot of us with 2000's have dealt with the weak MAF used, and mine was finally replaced yesterday after using a K&N for nearly 2 years. Nissan has a TSB about over oiled filters contaminating the MAF, and this may be what has happened to you. I thought the 2002's had stronger MAF's.

You can try cleaning it to see, but out of the box filters should not be over oiled--mine wasn't. Nissan has a TSB about this, so if you have a warranty, put the stock AF back in before getting it looked at.

To add to dvanorder's comment, clean the oil off of the MAF before taking it in. This will alleviate having to argue about the K&N's oil getting on the wire.

Don't dunk the sensor in alcohol or solvent like others have done. This will destroy it. Use a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol or degreaser and lightly clean it. Allow it to dry then plug it back in.
