Home Depot Mod Challenge...

EDIT: Just bumping this up so some of the newbies can get some ideas and don't have to create repeat threads

Out of curiosity, I'd be interested in seeing how many/what Home Depot "mods" people here have done (always looking for new ideas).
So post a list of mods you've done to your 5th gen that consist primarily of parts that would not generally be considered automotive..obviously there might be some "other" parts in there from auto stores (nuts, bolts, paints, etc.). Also this would not include changing bulbs/lighting (unless you alter the bulb/light yourself with paint, wiring, etc..). Basically anything that you bought the components at the hardware store...there's some leeway here...you can include parts you've painted custom, etc....

But they have to be things you've made yourself, not things you've had fabricated/built/painted/installed by a shop or another person....

One thing....let's not argue about what is and isn't a HD Mod.....just put what you consider a HD mod and let's not have anybody try to say it isn't (unless of course you put "headers" or "rims" )

Here's my list:
-grille inserts (made of gutter leaf guards)
-custom black AE-style headlights
EDIT: replaced with cleared 2002-3 HIDs
-smoked side markers (painted)
-turn signal bulbs painted silver
-custom hyperground (wiring/attachments from Home Depot)
-Maglite mod
-Custom fire extinguisher mount (in trunk)
-Custom first aid kit mount (in trunk)
-custom engine valance (plexiglass)
-Changed radio/climate control/clock lighting to blue
EDIT: now it's red, using LEDs (also door switches)
-painted steering wheel logo
-custom painted roof-rack fairing
-painted reservoir caps
-changed key ring light to blue
EDIT: red LED now
-custom ebrake handle (fiberglass/vinyl)
-side marker lights re-wired to flash with signals
-sound deadening on inside of splash guards (rubberized undercoating)
-Murano spray washers (this may be pushing it a bit....but I did have to alter them with a dremel and make custom grommets)
EDIT: some more new things since this thread was started...can't think of em though

that's what I can think of at the moment......

hyperground
super-heavy trunk floor (3/4" MDF)
amp rack (3/4" MDF, same as above)
emergency kit (walmart 99 cent pale, tied to one of the support rods for the trunklid using speaker wire with stuff inside.)

that trunk floor needs to go methinks
must think of a much lighter/thinner material and find a way to fasten it to the chassis floor while maintaining access to the spare tire (which I have difficult access to anyway with this setup)

excellent. I was thinking something like plexiglass, but I don't think that would be ideal because it's flimsy, and I'd have to fit my 2 walmart sub enclosures on top too, and they have to sit over the spare tire area...
Maybe something like that, but with a hinged door that lifts up to gain access to the spare tire?

Shoot. The possibilities are endless. I wonder if Home Depot has some thicker plexiglass or something similar (fiberglass?) that's stiffer and could hold up as a lightweight floorboard?

1/4" plywood with some supports and another piece of 1/4" ply on the spare tire so I could have a flat surface to support from. MDF is really heavy.

Hey like I said...if you made it yourself, it counts I guess!

I assume you mean the painting of the bulbs? If so, all it does is make it so the bulbs don't look red/orange when off (look at your tail bulbs, front turn signals if you're 2k-2k1 and you'll know what I mean). With silver enamel over them, they still light up at night, but are not visible in the day....

ask all these questions in their own threads, that way you'll get more responses..... or look around for old threads on the subject, there are alot of them, just browse back a couple of pages...

I bought an intake adapter from Ace Hardware, all you have to do is drill holes for the MAF. It fits 4th gen, 5th gen, and G20's

I was wondering the same thing at first. But then I just figured that they were talking about clearing their turn signal, and went past it???
