Unresponsive Gas Pedal

The other day my SES light came on. I went to work and everything seemed fine. However at lunch, I started the car - shifted it into reverse and steped on the gas and nothing happened. I rolled in the street and shifted into D, pushed down the gas and still nothing. My Max just idled forward. I tried a few more times to "rev" my engine and nothing. I finally parked the car, let it sit for about 10 minutes and it seemed fine again. The SES light is still on, but can anyone give me some suggestions on what could be wrong or has anyone had the same problem on a 03 automatic Max?
Thanx

Sounds like your TPS (throttle postioning sensor) malfunctioned, or your MAF sensor is malfunctioning. You should take it to Autozone, they can read error codes that kicked off your SES light and isolate the problem.

Thanks for the imput.
My car is still under warranty and is at the dealership right now, so I just wanted to know what I could expect from them. I guessing that should be covered.......

Buddy of mine in Michigan had the same thing happen with his 02 Max... said there was a recall done for that? I have no idea... but I'll find out from him what exactly went wrong....

This is most likely a dead TPS. The ECU can't see the pedal position so it doesn't know to adjust the throttle accordingly.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't that mean the whole throttle body needs to be replaced if it was the TPS?

For those that were interested in what the dealer found out, here it is:
They had to order me a new Electric Throttle Control Actuator, I guess the one I had went bad and this should fix it.........
I get the car back tomorrow, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Digi,
How many miles do you have on your 2002? I have ~44,000 and mine went but I had a diff. condition. My car would idle around 1000 rpm compared to a normal idle of 700-650 rpm but it would drive fine. I am waiting for a used one to come in to fix the problem.

My 2003 has about 31,000 on it.......so luckily it is still under warranty. How did you know it went? Your SES light came on?

Yeah, the SES light came on and 5 codes were pulled that all pointed in the direction of the TPS or the Electronic Thorttle Actuator being bad. I thought I was the only one that had a bad throttle body this early. I still don't like how Nissan switched over to electronic throttle bodies. To get a brand new one it'll cost ~$750 from the dealer! A used one will cost half of that so you are lucky you are still under the factory warranty.
