Aftermarket Headlight Bulbs

Well after messing around with several aftermaket H4 bulbs the last 3 years I think I've come full-circle. Piaa Xtreme whites were my favorites but each time they only lasted a few months and cost WAY too much considering their lifespan. I've tried Eurolite, and a slew of other eBay no-name brand ones that I also liked but each and every time they only lasted a matter of months. I'm tired of always having to either scramble to get bulbs at the last minute because one of mine blew out or buy several pair at a time to have extra on-hand for that purpose. I've got Schucks generic-brand extra-bright halogens in my pickup and they've last over a year with no problem and only cost something like $15. They aren't impressive in terms of their crisp-bright light from the viewpoint of onlookers (they're yellow looking in comparison to the above-mentioned bulbs), but they do an excellent job of illuminating the road at night from a driver standpoint. I think I'm going to scrap the whole idea of "after market" bulbs that "look" white and just go with something more reservered that aren't "bling bling", are cheaper, last longer, and illuminate the road ahead better (with the exception of the Piaas). I know how many people here use aftermarket xenon bulbs and the like (like I did for the last 3 years) and was just wondering if anyone else has come to the same conclusion I have. I still swear by my PIaa ion crystal yellow fog light bulbs though...I love 'em!! Oh yeah...turning 33 this month might also might have had something to do with this revelation!! LOL

I've got sylvania silver stars in my 2001. I got them almost two years ago. Ithink they cost $40 for two back then. One side burnt out a year ago but I haven't had any problems since.

my conclusion was decided about a year ago when i blew my 3rd set of fog bulbs AND cracked the fog lens themselves. since then i've used oem fog bulbs and i have 2 cracked fog lens. do i care, not one bit. i still have piaa led's in my side marker and clearance lights. if they burn out, back to oem i go. i've already long accepted it and really don't care. after i read that some kid ordered bulbs to cover his whole car, and it cost him $250, i snapped into the realization that they're a huge waste.

I've bought more than 15 sets of PIAA bulbs ever since I had my first car and only 1 bulb burned out. I only buy PIAAs

Me too! Except, I'm still trying to figure out a way to get the DRLs deactivated so my fog rewire will be worthwhile.

What exactly makes a bulb burn out? I know that handling must be taken into precaution (not touching the bulb, etc) but it seems like some PIAAs will go on for years and others for months. Also, I bought h3's like crazy from ebay and from best buy (brother's discount YEAAAAH) but they burnt out every 2 to 3 months. What gives?

Which H4 Piaa bulbs looks the best (closest to HID & brightness)? Right now I have Piaa Super Plasma and they look pretty good. I thinking about getting the spark blue when mines burn out but I heard that the spark blue looks good but doesn't light up the road well. Is that true?

If that were true you would have had to have owned your car since 1998 or so.

Maxpwr2k1, what HID kit did you get and what was the $$$? Any problems with it? I am looking to get one for my 2k but don't want to buy a POS kit.

Spark blue is the good "looking" bulb, it doesn't light up too well on the street. Super Plasma-GTX is the good choice for safe lighting.

My opinion ofcourse, it depends on the car. I have a 5th gen and it's not all the bright, but it will turn heads. You really see alot of purple/blue up close, but from faraway, they are pretty white. Now my buddy had them first and he has a 5.5gen and they look crazy. It looks like a different color at every angle and bright as hell. At first I was like WTF, cuz i though mine would look like his. The fog light lense are different between the gens.

Are you saying because the 5.5 gens have glass housing, the light looks different (cooler)? Too bad those things are prone to cracking. I'd rather have my plastic ones though, they last longer for most people.
