I've noticed that my Maxima cranks very slow sometimes. When I turn over the ignition, 50% of the time it cranks as quick as any other car I've owned, but the other 50% of the time I have to hold the key for 2 to 3 seconds.

Is this normal or is it something I'm doing wrong? I do not give it gas while cranking, nor do I press the accelerator before cranking. I just simply turn the key.

Before I take it back to the dealer, I would like to know from you guys what may be going on.

Thanks.

I have this problem, but it's only on and off. Someone posted about within the past four days or so. See if you can dig it up (it was a TSB).

The TSB for this happening had to do with the immobilizer key not being recognized quickly enough, I think....

i have a question that has to deal with this a little... what happends when your car is already started and you forgot and u turn to start it again? you hear grinding... is this bad for the car if u do it once for a few seconds? I just did it this weekend... ive done it before on other cars but i just wanted to know what is actually making the grinding noises and in theory if lets say you would hold it like that for an hour what would happen?

The grinding would probably be your starter.....and it is bad to let it grind...very bad....you would need a new starter if you did it for a long time. A crank or two, I wouldn't worry about tho...
