Help, I'm Thinking Of Doing It!!!

My 01 SE is my baby, but I drove an 04 SE today and I think I might do it. The ride is a little nicer, the interior is much nicer, the radio kicks, the price is right as they are trying to unload the 04's, and I love the way the rear looks. I am even contemplating the radiant amber orange, the insanity of it all....whew no wait, silver with grey leather, that was close!!

Why should I,

Why shouldn't I

I am so confused,

why not....cause 3 years from now you'll be having this exact same conversation on a newer maxima, and then 3 years from them, etc.....
point is, there will always be better. save for the big one. that's why i'm not trading for a g35 or down to a mini cooper (dont' ask, just accept). i figure there will always be better. plus, if i REALLY want that ferrari, i need to really fight lots of urges.
i have spoken...

I know why I myself would not do it..... 3 more payments = Nissan Finance Freedom. But I will say the 04's are nice. I saw a 350z in that radiant color w/ a personalized tag reading NUPENNY.

NMAC send me a letter to lure me into the dealer for a 04 Maxima SE, at 23500 dollars with 1.0% financing for 60mo. I was like w00t, garbage can. I reather enjoy no payments and drive a much nicer looking car. To me it looks like a Galant, or Galant looks like a Maxima. Altima 3.5 SE 5spd is a much better buy. Doing anything on a 5th gen is a breeze, doing a CLUTCH on a 6th gen is a PITA, doing headers is a PITA... everything bout the car screams- cost cutting. My 90 SE 5spd Maxima felt more solid than any Maxima I ever owned and it had 300K miles.

The 04's are ugly as sin IMO. If you outright own your current max, make sure they don't rip you off on the trade in value. If you owe money and owe more than the car is worth, I would wait.

Tell me why things are harder to do on 6th gens? I would assume its relitively the same as an 02+ altima.

Not that you have to agree with their opinion, but have you ever read the Article on the 04 Max on Automobear.Com?? Once you've read one story on Automobear, you will read another and another: high quality, original writing about interesting auto topics.

Do the research, read some reviews, check out 6th gen forum for common problems. Keep in mind, you're posting in the 5th gen forum, a good portion of people here, don't care for the way 6th gen looks. But that tends to be more subjective then anything else.
After looking into potential issues, as well as potential upgrades, if you feel like this is something you want to drive, go for it.

I dunno, I personally dont like the new maximas. They look like a big VW bug. The rear does not look too bad but the front looks like an ***.

I would rather get a 2k3 SE titanium or an AE 2001 white on black leather

Ok.. aside from everyone else, (no offence) but honestly.. do what you feel is right. If you feel like you want that 04, then go for it. No one else has to enjoy it but yourself. Opinions from peers are great and all, but they're just that.. opinions. Follow what your gut tells you and you'll make the smart choice.

The 6th Gen Max is really love hate. I honestly hated them when I first saw them. But the more and more I see them, the better and better they look.

Remember, back in late '99, people were saying the exact same things about the 5th gen Maxima when it first came out.

Once people get used to looking at the thing I'm sure the public oppinion will change about the car.

I love the rear quarter view of the 6th gens. I drove one and almost bought it before deciding on my 2001 SE. The dealers I worked with could not get a Radiant Amber 2004 anymore, though. I guess the production run on those was pretty limited.

I bought my 2001 over a 2004 because I could pay cash and have no car payment for a car that was a little less nice, had a few miles, but still did everything I need a car to do. I hate having monthly payments on anything, but that's just me.
