Hello everyone. I just wanted to let interested parties know that the new code absolutely, positively ROCKS!!!!!! I can't describe the feeling of elation that I just experienced while driving home from the dealer. All I can say is that anyone out there who has been complaining about the fuel cutoff problem in any way, shape, or form should run out to their dealer and have them flash their ECM with this version. BTW, I have a 2000 SE obviously a 5-speed.

You guys know what this means? I assume to fix the problem, Nissan had to revise some of their fuel/ingition or some other code in the ecu. Seeing that they "flashed" the new program into the old ecu, that means if someone got their hands on one of these machines, they could do what Dinan offers for the BMWs already. Flashed upgraded ecus!

What it does is completely eliminate the annoying cutoff all together. For example, everyone who has the 5th generation with a 5-speed is painfully aware when, at highway speeds, you let off the throttle to a certain point it will close completely and cause that very annoying slight jerk (for lack of a better word). That is now gone! Also, the car seems much smoother when shifting. The RPMs do not seems to drop off as quickly as before. Well, let me rephrase that. It seems that possibly they might have been changed the control algorithms such that the cutoff is not quite so severe. Now, this gets into a whole control issue and can get quite tedious to explain. Another Mechanical engineer in the group want to tackle a basic control theory explaination? Power doesn't seem to have been affected in any way.

I'm pleased to hear that the ECM update worked out so well for you, krywicki. Unfortunately, it had absolutely no effect on the fuel-cut problem on my Maxima. Guess it works on some Maximas and not on others.

Update: I just spoke to my dealer. They want to try reprogramming the ECM again. I'll drop by the dealership tomorrow morning and we'll see if that makes a difference.

When was the new ECM OEM'd?

Does anybody know the build date of the first 5th gen shipment that came with the upgraded ECU? I don't want to waste my time getting it flashed if my car came from the factory with the newer version.

Well I think most dealers aren't familiar with flashing them... you may want to try another dealer. When they flashed mine for the cold idle they used the wrong program and it took like 6 hours longer than it should've
