installing a 2002 navigation unit in a 2001?

Hi everyone,
I am new here and had a question. Is it possible to install the navigation unit from a 2002 maxima in a 2001 maxima? Would the harness need to be changed or any other modifications made? Pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Hish

The cost and work involved is just not worth it IMO. It's not just changing harnesses. You would have to integrate your current HVAC controls into the Navi unit, the GPS antenna wherever that is, speed sensor (accelerometer??), etc etc. Just get an aftermarket unit like the Garmin 2620 which you can find for under $1000. It's touchscreen and has the US and Canada on its internal HD.

I bought a Dell Axim for $250 and a Belkin bluetooth GPS for $150. I have a great navigation system that does everything the Nissan GPS does. You should look into it. CNET.COm has some info.

I run a Garmin GPS Street pilot deluxe. It does everything a built in system does including voice instruction. On the max it mounts nice on the 'flat' in front of the clock. And it will cost you 1/3 of the Nissan unit. Garmin has newer models now, touch screen.

Touchscreen really isn't worth it. For the number of times you will press it, you will spend twice cleaning it up.

I'll go with the non touch ones since it offers no real benefit on a gps..

Good point Evil. I have had NO urge to switch to that unit. You can get a good used Street pilot 3 deluxe on ebay for $500?? I had posted a picture of mine 9-12 mos ago, but cant find it.

I own the Street Pilot Deluxe and the biggest issue I have with it is how dang slow the processor is. It takes forever to recalculte the route if you miss a turn. By the time it figures it out, you've already missed the alternate turn. The new generation of Garmin does the calculations in seconds.

that units for the UK....i think they have different code to read DVD movies so you might run into problems in that aspect & navi might not cover U.S. ....but then again i may be wrong

I have the AVIC-N1 in my car & love it....

also if you want stock look...then eclipse & kenwood have a model that is flush with dash & takes up both din spaces....
