Yeah dude, I'm from Newton, and I've been pulled over for my 35%, and thats legal. Plus, unless you do it yourself, alot of shops won't do it, because they can get in trouble for it.
By the way, if you're interested, I'm selling my rims and tires

It's best to find a shop with an electronic tint cutter. It basically looks like one of those big printers they use for engineering drawings and drafting, but it has a very fine blade and is hooked to a computer that has precise measurements of your window size. It can cut the tint to fit your windows exactly with no hand cutting needed. They should fit the tint to the outside of your back window using a heat gun and a lot of patience before they peel and apply it to the inside.
Another thing: Because of the factory tint "dots" on the top of my back window, they applied black vinyl to cover that section then matched the tint up to it on the clear part. It looks way better than trying to tint over those dots....the tint will never stick down to those and will look kind of strange. The way mine was done the windows look black, which is what I was going for. Again - the machine did all the cutting, they just fitted it and applied it.
I went 15% tint all around on my car. We have the 35% law here in MN too, but so far cops have just looked a little more closely rather than pull me over. If you get pulled over for speeding or something, though, plan on getting an additional citation for your windows. And you can't get around it with every cop in every situation, even if someone is working deals for you.

Got tint all around, and use the de-frost every morning to clear the dew. No melting, warping or bubbles. I got mine done by a 20 year pro, one thing they may have an issue with is the dot matrix, but it's a slim chance you will have a problem. FYI, I had to sign a release form stating that I'm over 18 and understnd that the tint is illegal in the state of Pa.

How Can we get this Black Vinyl your talking about to cover the factory tint dots on top of the back windshield? Are these just tint dots and not part of the back defroster. Right now I have my back windshield tinted except for those dots and they look kinda funny when your looking down through the windshield. I wanted to tint those dots myself but you explained that it would look strange.......How so??

you wont be able to see a thing at night w/5%. I had it on the rear windows of my old car, almost hit people cause I just couldnt see anything.... do like 15%, still nice and dark, but you can still see outside.

I found some information on the computerized tint cutter - it's called the Tint Tech 20/20 System. It was cool watching them lay out all the tint - they just put a roll in it, called my car up on the computer, and hit a button. The cuts came out perfect. It really looks like a factory job.
As for the 5% tint, it looks really cool but I agree that it's impractical. I had a 1985 Buick Regal T-Type in high school that I had tinted at 5% - it looked awesome from the outside, but the dash lights reflected so bad at night that you had to basically turn them off to see anything. And in the rain at night it was just plain dangerous. Your peripheral vision really suffers after dark with 5%.
Here's the shop I've used since high school. It's in South Dakota, so it probably won't help anyone out: www.tintmyride.com

i got 5% on the backs and 15% up front, the shop just sanded down the dots to allow the tint to stick. the shop also used guarented tint, it will never fade or peel or they will replace it for free.
backing up can be a slight problem but you can drop your front windows and use your mirrors.
oh and i had to sign a form saying that i understand that tinted windows, the front 3, in NJ is illegal.

I mentioned Llumar as being warranted against fading and peeling before...I think 3M tint is the same way. Whatever happens, make sure they use GOOD TINT. That's the key.
I don't know about the rest of you guys, but my car gets way more compliments with the tint. It really set it off - next, wheels.

DARK Tints!
A friend of mine got his SUV tinted all around. They are dark as hell. SUVs come with factory tinted windows in the back. He had the shop tint over the factory tints and they are now DARK as hell. Tint on Tint is just crazy. You could barely see what is going on sitting on the inside..imagine looking in from the outside. It was tough driving around in the first month or so but now it seems easier.

If you decide to go 3M get the CS film.
With all those films you won't have to worry about the defrost tearing you film up.

Here in Mass, 35% all around is the legal limit for a car.
For SUVs, they can have 5% in the back, 35% in the front
