Weird deal

So I'm changing my own oil on the Maxima and through a series of things got distracted................when I looked up, the wife had driven the car off to the movies and I saw to my horror that the oil cap had not been screwed back on..........my fault, arghhhh...........anyway, I couldn't reach her and she ended up driving back on the freeway at the end of the day...........when she pulled up, I checked for the inevitable mess that I expected to see, but it wasn't there..........hooray...........my question, how can the Max leave with the required amount of oil and return with that same amount with just a kiss of oil staining the underside of the hood absent an oil cap.........did I just get lucky or what?...........Thanks...............lj

You were only loosing oily vapors (breather) not oil in real liquid form. The camshaft cover where the oil filler cap is located is baffled and well above the level of any real amount of oil other than what is pumped up to lube the camshaft, lifters and followers etc.

Hahah.... until the day comes when you'll meet one that can tell the brake from the clutch You guys should really stop ******* at us! I miss having a manual car and can't wait to get one. Everytime I start my car, I stomp on the non-existant clutch and it's not there.....

So i'm assuming there are a lot of scuff marks/scrapes on your dead pedal, eh?

I'll totally let someone who knows stick well drive my car.
