I try to stay with factory Nissan filters. Unless you go with a K&N or other "performance" filter. I like the piece of mind of having the original equipment on there. They're a little more expensive but I think my sanity is worth it. In any case I doubt you would ever hurt your car using a FRAM filter.

I actually took out my K&N filter today and replaced it with a Purulator (sp?). I figured it should work fine. I think the K&N filter made my O2 sensor go bad. Maybe it did, maybe it didn't but I figured it should do the job just as well.

Nissan Air filters from US?

Just wondering if anyone has noticed any difference in quality from the new US made air filters vs. the ones made in Japan. I just got a bunch of US made Nissan OEM air filters and I could have sworn that the Japanense ones had a different paper media.

I just remember the Japanese filter is red while the US made filter is white. I know some people say the OEM filters are pre-oiled. Maybe only the Japanese filters are.

You may wanna get rid of that Purolator... I had one of those "Made in Korea" ones and after careful inspection, I was able to see tiny holes in the media.

Have a NAPA Gold (manufactured by Wix) in now. Much better media. Otherwise, go OEM.

I have been using a K&N since I bought my car. It's been three years and no MAF damage or nothing. .. I think is worth the more air flow....but nothing major.......in performance..

I use the Napa Gold, otherwise stick with OEM.

Stick with OEM

I would suggest that you stick with the Nissan air filter. I had a K&N and had the bad MAF experience and it wasn't much fun. I had Nissan install the new MAF sensor and they automatically put in an OEM filter. I don't think it's worth taking the risk to save a couple of bucks or get a couple of extra hp.

price!

Lontar1, the difference is about $300. No idea why the MAF sensor for the 00/01s is so much cheaper (at least if its ordered through Jerrry Rome Nissan). Must be because of the 3.5 litre vs 3.0 litre engine.
