All with 00-03 auto's that have a shifting problem step in.
I took the max in because my max was shifting like crap from 1-2 and 3-4 when manually shifting. The 1-2 shift under WOT would drag for a few seconds then slam into gear and the 3-4 shift would rev high, then go into gear. I was given the TSB for this problem by the service mgr. (NTB04-035) dated 3-10-04 "Abnormal shifting of auto transaxle (RE4F04B/W)", it applies to 00-03 Maxima's (A33) and 04 Maxima's (A340) with 4-speed A/T only. The dealer said that the first step in the TSB is to replace the valve body and if that doesn't work replace the transaxle assy. I'm going to make an appt. to get the valve body replaced ASAP. If anybody has these symptoms head to the nearest dealer, that you can trust, and get it fixed. I'm hoping to get this TSB in the TSB section of the org.

this is kind of funny cause i just had all of this done. i picked my car up and two weeks after my wife complained of it not shifting right. well i took it for a spin and noticed it would slip and then bang on 2-3 upshift. i brought it to my dealer with the tsb in hand. they did it with no problem and replaced the valve body and did a tranny flush.( they have to pull the pan down anyway) well i got it back and the 2-3 problem stoped. then last week i pressed the gas down at least 3/4 way and the car went great until the second gear shift. it sliped and banged again. well i went to nissan with the new tsb that states before new tranny they have to change the valve body then if that doesnt do it they change the tcm. well i got it back with the new tcm and the car shifts even better through out all the other gears as well. also i priced the tcm thinking if it were cheap id do it myself. well the dealer sells it for 5 and change so that was out. good thing i have another 40 k on my extended warranty. good luck
kcowden,
That's totally amazing!! I have a 03 Maxima SE and reported this very same problem to my dealership about 1 year ago. They said it was normal, so I sought the help of Nissan customer "do not" care. They were helpless and flat out lied to me (told me they would call the tech hotline on my behalf and find out if this was a known problem and if so, call the dealership. A week later they called me back to say they called the tech hotline and there was no known problem and that the Bankston diagnosed the vehicle correctly. I pushed back and caught them in a lie; customer care never did call the hotline, they simply waited a week and then called me back - what a disservice to customers!). Anyway, back to the slippage problem. Mine slips the first time after sitting over night or day. Cooler temperatures exacerbate the problem. It's terrible, it slips a lot between 1st and 2nd and then just a tad between 2nd and 3rd. Mine has even thumped into 2nd gear. I'm surprised the dealership did not mention this during my last visit, as I'm sure it's in their system. I guess I should have known! Thank you so much for posting this to the org! Thanks, Tony

I found this using google... It's not the complete TSB, but it should be enough to prove there is one.
