Overwattage bulbs

Isn't it bad to use overwattage bulbs (i.e. 100W) in how headlamps or foglights? I've heard either way and wasn't sure. Alternatively, how easy would it be to upgrade our harness to safely support higher wattage and has anyone done it. I'm doing this on a budget, so I realize that if I need to end up spending a lot of money, I'll just by a HID kit.

See that's what I thought. I bought off brand, cheap H3s from autolumination and one burned out so i'm returning them but I see on the box it says 100W and I emailed the guy who runs the site and he said that everyone does it without any problems.

the HID system uses less power and they are more brighter. but now that I look at the case of the fog piaa h3's they say 110w, should be ok.

hids use more power at startup but they draw a lower wattage when they are on.

I have 100w bulbs in my fogs and havent experienced any problems. I will say that you should NEVER put overwattage bulbs in your marker lights. I had 18w bulbs in my headlight markers for all of 10 mins and that turned out to be a mistake.

German cars can take a lot of wattage abuse, some domestics and most japanese cannot.

Why would you risk it anyway.. if a wire melts somewhere in the main stack you are so out of luck.
