xenon bulbs stolen but not housing

un f-in believable. my low beam light bulbs were stolen from the car. someone got under the hood and took the bulbs. they pried off the back of the bulb cover and then took the bulbs.

how much are the bulbs to replace? can i get away with just replacing the bulbs. i am missing what looks to be the back cover that goes over the socket. but the full socket is there and appears to be no damage other then the missing cover plastic backing.

what should i do?

Did they damage your hood while getting it open, or did they yank your grill out?

Count yourself EXTREEEEEEEEEEMELY lucky. Sounds like your "data dots" were good for something AFTER ALL and your local thief is getting smarter since your last $2400 theft.

Go check the Classifieds for some used OEM D2R burners, I think I saw a single for $40 and a pair for $100 or you can buy some higher K/color aftermarket D2Rs for around $150 or cheaper on eBay.

You can just use duct tape or thick rubber balloons as a cover to keep moisture out until you find replacements. Shouldn't be that hard/expensive to find some from a wrecked car.

Question? Is Nissan ever going to do something about it. I have an 01, and love to have the 02-03 HID, courtesy parts sells them for $1,3k, but with people stealing them... is a no no for me... until somebody findsa way to hide or fix it....

My question is do I file a claim with insurance? I have no idea if they have to preplace the whole light housing. Wiring is ok but back of housing is sawed off and bulbs taken.

I wouldn't. Your deductible is probably more then the $150 to replace the burners and I've heard your rates go up if you get hit in the Tri-state especially more then once.

Sorry for the dumb question....

but, how did someone get your bulbs without doing ANY damage to your car? Were your keys stolen too or did you leave the car unlocked?

I'm confused.

If you invested in an aftermarket alarm perhaps he would not have get past the hood-
thieves snip the factory horn before proceding to get past the grille and hood lock to open the max up, since factory alarm is connected to the horn-

yeah, i would go with the alarm too, preferrably a viper 2 way pager. i already told don that when i get my own place in the next few months, i want him to crank up the sensitivity on the alarm, for these reasons. although, running outside at 3 in the morning may not do much facing 3 guys with crowbars and baseball bats and ****, haha, but if the alarm is loud enuff, it may scare them away.

Number 9 in this pic. They go for about $160 apiece just for the bulbs.

Eh, see if you can keep the ballasts and the housings... selling those will easily cover your deductable. Those bulbs dont actually cost 200$ a piece from anywhere but the dealer.. you can get new ones on ebay for like 70 a pair. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=36476

Like I said, you can easily pick up a used PAIR for <$100 or new aftermarket/higher K PAIR for $150 or less.

I will gladly buy your old housings, BTW I do not have your bulbs or anything- I'm in Chicago where HID theft is not as big. Alot of cars here have HIDs. I would upgrade cause my OEM AE headlights are all dull and pass light condensation kills me.

they took my hids about three weeks ago with a crobar. It happened around 5 am so no one saw anything and my alarm went off. I was out the door in 30 secs but by then the car was stripped. This time it was the old break the hood and break the bumper technique. I had an anti theft kit which really cant do much if you crobar them out. My lesson, if thieves want them, they will get them. Cops told me that most of the thefts are being done by young male, hispanics. I aint racist but just want to tell you what they told me.

idiot thief...they got under the hood. instead of unscrewing the cap to the low beam on the back they took the time to saw, hack and break it off. then take the low beam bulbs. insurance replace the whole thing. now I have the old headlight housing, ballast and all wiring harnesses to sell. any idea on how much I can get?

got any pics ? hard to tell whats its worth with the housing all sawed up I would be interested in just the housings, no wireing needed here, or no ballasts.
