Winter tires vs. All season - what are you running?
For all you winter drivers: How many of you rely on All seasons vs. Winter tires. I'm debating on whether I should get a second set of rims for spring/summer/fall tires and put winter tires on the stock rims. The OEM Potenzas will not cut it this winter....really shouldn't have last winter either.
Curious as to what all you winter .orgers have.

I used Nokian WRs last year. Great snow tire and its the only snow tire that you can leave on all year and use year round. Rated four seasons. I only used them during the winter and switched back to my S-03s.

I spent a few weeks researching all the different types of snow tires, and Nokian really does have some of the finest ones. If you want something more aggressive, then the Hakkapeliitta 2 or 4 are right up your alley.

I was able to take my car to upstate NY last year, and drove though some roads where I was sure I would get stuck. The Nokians kept plowing through hard packed, soft snow and slush with no problem. Driving on good winter tires makes the car so much safer and comfortable to operate.

Im running Pilot sport a/s in the stock size, havent tested them in snow but that will come soon, as for wet/dry traction both are amazing, these will be my wet weather tires when i finally get my new rims, dont know when that will be considering they are 750 bucks each, plus tires......

I kinda like those tires your talking about "Nokian WRs ". How much did these tires go for?
Last year, NY got dumped with some good snow at certain points and I did get stuck with the crappy potenza's. I switched to all season tires but I'd be interested in buying some winter tires.

NOKIANS - Price & selling mine
They go for about $178 a piece. Very expensive, but very worth it.
I am selling mine, for $450 mounted on SE rims. They only have about 2000 miles on them. I haven't even listed them on the For Sale section yet. Just made the site.

This will be my last summer with the Potenzas. I'll switch to Pilot Sport A/S's next spring (I want wet traction). In the winter I run Dunlop Winter Sport M3s. Not the stickiest snow tires, but better than the Potenzas.

Toyo Proxes 4 are the bomb. Just installed them last week and very pleased. I do not forsee any issue with snow driving. I drove in the 2002 blizzard with the craptenzas so I know these ***** will do great.
$108/ea is the best deal I found two weeks ago. www.edgeracing.com
Fast delivery (3 days) and no hastles.

I also have the michelin pilot all season sport, and couldn't belive how well they ran compared to the potenzas. Wet traction is fantastic, great in snow, had no problem with a chicago winter. I do notice they ride firmer than the potenza, but not obtrusively so. They were expensive, almost 2oo bucks a pop, but their tread rating wares to about 50,000 miles.

Im running Falken ZE512's on my SE 17's , and Michelin Energy MXV4's on my SE 16's. Both are all season tires, but dont be fooled, the best setup would be to get a High Performance summer tire for your set of nice wheels, and snow tires (Blizzaks, Pilot Alpins, etc.) for your winter wheels.

I'm putting 16" Goodyear Ultra Grip on this winter. The Potenza's won't be safe on the snow and ice. I'd bet you could buy them for about $100 each in real American dollars (about $125 Cdn Peso's).
I've heard less than favorable results on Blizzard. I 'm lead to believe the stickiness of the compound that makes them good in snow ends up being too soft, and doesn't retain it's stickiness. The result is one good winter of traction. That makes them a bit rich..
