Airbag Light flashing..

Hey orgers,

My Airbag light keeps flashing on the dash. This started after i removed the passenger seat for 2 days (due to a alcohol happy friend who decided to vomit with the window closed.. )

Anyway, everything is back in place now and reconnected. But how do I reset the Airbag light? Should I disconnect the neg. battery cable? or is there another way?

Thanks everyone,

Your problem might be similar to what I just had. My airbag light was flashing and when I took it in to Nissan they did hooked it up and found that the seatbelt needed to be replaced because the pretensioner (the thing that stops the seatbelt when you hit the brakes) was bad. It didn't cost me anything b/c I have an extended warranty. So maybe at some point when you removed your seat, the seatbelt got messed up causing the light to go on.

If that is the case, then you might be able to mess with the seatbelt yourself. If not...I wouldn't think getting the light to go off would be too good of an idea since there could actually be something wrong with your airbag system.

Good luck

Seatbelts are warrantied for life of the vehicle So if I had 200K miles on My Max, and the seatbelt started acting up goofy and not retracting..... they have to repleace it. I know cause I just had a friend take a Sentra to the dealer that I sold him. I remember I sold it to him with 169K miles, so it has to have around 180K miles if not more. Nissan just put in both new front seatbelts for him under warranty.

Seatbelts may be warrantied for life, which makes sense seeing that they are the most essential part or saving lives in a crash. But I think the issue here is the relays and/or sensors that tie the whole restraint system together. Unless I am mistaken, the airbag light probably wouldn't go on if the seatbelt itself was just a little screwy. Anyways, hopefully they will replace it no matter what. But if not, airbag and restraint stuff can get really expensive really quick.

Pyrotechnics inside the seatbelt mechanisim like to fail sometimes, and this will cause a SRS light, a unplugged seat belt buckle can cause the seatbelt light to come on also. Do you have side impact airbags ? if you removed the pass seat and started up the car or turned on the ignition SRS controll module was looking for the side impact airbag- mounted in the seat. It saw that it wasn't there and tripped a code. Try to clean out the car best as you could or the dealer could blame your friends vomit, and charge you to fix and diagnose it. They have to prove that the vomit caused the light to come on or what not. Always ask for proof, without proof they can't say or do ****.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I'm pretty sure I didn't touch the seatbelt harness, just 4 bolts and loosening the 3 connectors under the seat did the trick. I hope it's nothing serious other than just a tripped sensor. Also, i do have side impact airbags.

Would I do any harm if i had removed the Neg. battery terminal for a few hours?

Thanks everyone.

unplug the battery, turn on the lights- this will drain out some of the capacitors of any power they might have stored in any computer modules. Ofcourse with the battery disconnected the lights will not be on, so don't worry. This MIGHT or might not clear the SRS controll module. I know it does not on a Honda.

Thanks BlackBIRDVQ, I've tried that technique. Removing the battery terminal. Left it like that for about 2.5hrs. ALso left the light switch on while doing so. After reconnection of battery terminal. Same issue after the car is started.

I've rechecked the connections for the cables and they're all connected. Any ideas ppl?

Thanks,
