It's a good mod from what i gather, but don't let that be your purchase reasoning, that's nuts. Counting them precious ponies like each dollar means 14.25871 of them might not make the mod so worth it. I think the benefits aren't their claimed gains.

I'm getting the standard $300 flash only. Letting them do the tuning sounds like a bad idea.

from Danny at Technosquare in 9/2003:
"I know there are many '00-'01 Maxima owner out there that are more then willing to help us out with testing. However, the Nissan Maxima ECU is a tricky one to break into. We didn't skip those years on purpose. If I remember correctly, Nissan used a very very rare/proprietary CPU to run the all their cars from 1997-2001 (I'm not 100% sure on this). This is why we can not do ECU upgrades on 97 models Maximas. Then in 2002, they went with a much more popular and available CPU (on all models) that we can get and work up a hardware downloader for it."

When the schematics of the 2001 ECU was sent in, they figured out that nissan went back to the popular CPU model (close to 2k2+ nissans). It was also confirmed this week that the 99 ECU is indeed far different from 95-96 and 01+ nissan ECUs

Like I have been sayn for the last year, 01 is like a change over year for Maxima. Its ECU should be very close to the 3.5Ls. For one NO EGR on 01s, returnless fuel system, advanced EVAP monitoring, speed sensor pickup is nolonger in the tranny- uses ABS speed sensors to determine speed of the vehicle, it even uses the same front exhaust manifold/cat as the 3.5Ls, exhaust is virtually the same- same main cat, same b-pipe, just diff exhaust tips on the muffler. Harness connectors are like on a 3.5L vs 00 having connectors like the older 99s. I think putting a ECU into a 00 might be doable- BUT, you will need to get a whole engine harness, update the ABS to the 01 controll module (for speedo operation ), repleace some of the sensors with 01 sensors -VIAS has more stuff on it, connector wise vs the 00 Maxima. Some of the sensors are virtually the same but connectors are different- that is ALOT of work and $$$ to have a ECU in a 00 Max. Right now I have NOT tried putting a 01 ECU into a 00 car, but I'm pretty sure atleast speedo is going to be dead. Since I do not have a spare ECU layn around and no 00 to test it on, I think maybe someone who has a 00 who wants the ECU should stand up to test it. Another thing is, Nissan had a revision in late 00 to the newer 01 stuff on their car, one way of seeing if your CALI emissions 00 will work with a 01 Cali ECU, is look on your manual tranny- right on the differential housing should be a hole- and its capped off. If there is a sensor in that hole- then your ECU is still the older version. If it IS capped off then you have the newer version ECU that the 01s use and TS upgrade might work on it.

BlackBirdVQ correct me if I'm wrong, but when you say "00 Maxima" you are describing a Federal spec, correct?

I still think 2000 Cali specs might have a chance swapping with a 2001 which are all Cali spec. I've been through a lot of the FSM diagrams and the ECU inputs/outputs are identical from what I've seen. However, before Danny Lee left TS, he verified that the 2000 Auto Cali Spec ECU I sent him had different circuitry inside. Now, that could depend on when the production date "cutoff" happened, but we haven't compared enough to know yet.

*IF* TS is interested in completing this ECU for production, it will be tested.

Doubt you talked to Danny more likely Brian and Tadashi still doesn't have a clear picture on the Maxima ECU lineage, since Danny was the one with the history. Tadashi and I are "talking" back and forth, now that SEMA is over all will be taken care of.

2001 5spd reflashes are pretty close and the autos will follow shortly. 2000s are the only ones in question, since Nissan changed the circuitry. It is not that it can't be done, I'm sure Techtom/TS can do it, however I'm sure it depends on 2001 and 2002-2003 sales to determine the R&D worthwhile.

tadashi said its not justifiable to make any 98-00 ecus. They are almost out of the chips for the 95-96 maxima ecus, once its gone no more upgrades from TS.

and yes, it was danny. Brian, Tadashi, and Danny were all there

Again, Danny was the only one that knew the difference between Maxima ECUs 99-00 and even a 2001 and 2002 ECU. Tadashi didn't, so anything you heard from Brian or Tadashi then wasn't 100% informed. If Danny said that, then he apparently doesn't care anymore what they do.

2001s virtually only have 3 versions that matter. 2000s have quite a few.

Honestly, they don't really care about maxima ECU's, or maximas in general for that matter. Considering how cheap and flaky the general people here are, you can't blame them. Only reason they do 02+ maxima ecu upgrades is because it just happens to be similar to the Z/G ecu.

can't access email until i'm off work.

also, I noticed with the scantool that the car threw a P505 code with the new ECU before it was fixed (stumbling problem). It not there anymore, but it was stored in the ECU as a past code

Maybe it just needed to relearn?

According to the FSM, you must perform the IAVL procedure anytime you remove the ECU, however I didn't when I sent it to TS and got it back without a problem.

i dunno. They pulled it at after the stumbling problems during the test drive. Danny worked on it with Tadashi and when they popped it back in it was fine.

Your ECU just needed to be forced to relearn.

I think TS took care of that and eventually it will clear out of history. You might try leaving your battery disconnected overnight to clear it and see if it comes back.
