Hazing on guage-cluster cover...annoying...
Hey all,
Sorry in advance if this is the wrong forum.
I just got my Max last weekend, and while the car is in very nice shape on the interior, I believe the previous owner used some sort of abrasive to clean the cover over the speedo, etc. Now, there are swirls and some hazing and the sun reflects off it somewhat badly. (you know how annoying this might be.)
Should I just replace that one part? How much of a pain will it be and how expensive? I'm assuming here that the plastic lens is not attached permanently to the guage cluster itself.
Thanks,
Brian

I would just replace that plastic cover. It's about $32 and really easy to replace. You can follow a portion of the how-to on the chrome gauge ring install. It details how to remove the gauges. All you really need to do is remove the black piece around the gauges.
Cheaper solution, try Meguiar's Plastic Polish, $2 or so. Apply it to the cluster cover with a wax applicator pad and polish with a light circular rubbing; let it dry a minute and then use a clean towel to wipe off any excess. Should be good as new.

The Meguire's Plastic Polish does a great job in keeping the condition good on the plastic piece. Use it once a week and you should never have to replace it again, unless of course you crack it like I have.
depending on the severity, plexus does an excellent job with minor swirls. www.autogeek.com

I'd try a dealer, or, get a used cluster from somewhere, either on here, junkyard, etc.
