when are you suppose to change your battery?

i have a 2k with 74k . I bought it used and the battery looks stock. No real problems thus far but I don't want to find out when this thing dies on me either. Usually how long do they typically last?

I did it. I justput new battery Canadian versionn of Optima batteries from Canadian Tire. It looked good - Gel filled cells, 17 times the vibration-resistance of conventional batteries, 1000 ca, 95 min Reserve Capacity and 3 years Free Replacement Period are worth 180 Ccanadian Dolars.
My car is 2001 and has 45000 km but my battery went death - yesterday somebody had to help me to jump start my car :-[
