OK. I got a little noise. Front Driver Side. Kinda of a clicking popping noise when I hit certain little bumps, maybe when turning at times. Not ALL the time, but a couple times a min. Guess I will contact Mike and see what the steps are to check into this. I know nothing is loose, we used air tools for all this.

Also.... the settings... Nothing to tell you really where to start, so:

Everyone who has these. When you start your settings, are you starting from the farthest Counter Clockwise setting? Then 1 full turn equals setting 1/0 correct?

Everyone talks about their ride being set at 2/3 or 4/5 does that mean 4 full turns, then set on position #5?

The Camber plates.... where is everyone setting theirs? Dead Center? Towards the outside? Inside?

Not a lot of info on these and the guy working with me had JICs and they actually have info and the settings are very clear...... Not as lucky with these.

Great questions, dblrr900. I should have a box of these for my 4th gen sitting at home as I am on a business trip right now. I expect to install these Sunday or Monday and hope to help shed light to the complete picture of the D2s. Do any instructions come with them?

No Instructions. A little common sense and some aggrevation at Nissan builders and you should be ok. I wouldnt recommend doing it alone. Can be a pain without a 2nd set of hands.

Really one person is enough. I did mine alone. I would recommend using and break over bar instead of the air tools. Those don't really get things that tight. Especially on the bottom two bolts that mount to the steering knuckle. Those have to be VERY tight. Some of the things I read about a noise while turning, recommended loosening up the top bolt above the camber plate, 19mm I believe and then retightening snuggly. Hope this helps

Once it was all back together went once over everything with regular tools and made sure everything was tight. The bolts are all good on my end.

On mine we had some issues getting one side out from the stock setup. Seemed a little tight and having the extra guy helped get it out. If I were alone it would have been quite a bit difficult.

Skaliberti - what settings did you set your front and rear to? Like 4 turns from left on position #3 or what?

I kept it simple. All were turned all the way toward "H" and left at that position. That is the softest.

Just got done installing them this evening. Not really any problems to speak of other than having to grind one of the holes on my strut tower brace a little to get the top of the coilovers to go through. Drove around - no noises, no issues, just quality stuff.

My point in buying these was for handling performance, not to dump the car on the pavement. I made them as high as I dared, giving the mounting piece more than half the length of threads of the shock, but I ended up with between a 1.25 and 1.50 inch drop in front and a (GULP) nearly 3 inch drop in the rear. It really doesn't match. I don't want to scrape my car constantly over curbs so I really don't want to lower the front to match the rear. What is the minimum drop anyone has been able to obtain on the rear of an A32?

Terrible pics, but at least they are pics:

Cr@p I still cant get rid of the noises. Well I took them out a couple of weeks ago and I got rid of the noise that came from the coilovers when I turned, but now I can here a clunking noise when going over small bumps. Sounds like something is loose but Ive tightened everything up. I think its still the front right coilover making the noise but I havent made sure. Hopefully during the thanksgiving break I can recheck everything out and hopefully find what the issue is.

Thanks

lower that front...lol....mine is about 2.7 frnt/back ....have the reccomended springs, and have my front dampening set at 6/36 and the backs at 10/36..........no particular reason for those setting other than comfort..this is the combination that I like....might have to raise it up some tho,, might be getting a job in d.c., ..i had a few noises here and there,, but they seemed to work themselve away.. when the weather dropped to 28F, thats when the noise started...maybe they need to warm up a little? i dont know...I love em tho.. and the slammed look is so much better...

I have it low also, no rubbing on curbs or anything like that. My noise is 99% gone after tightening up the plates, changing out the right front strut, reassembling the coilovers, and making my own custom gaskets.

When dismantled, press the piston on the strut all the way in and watch the rebound. It should be fast smooth and quiet. No noises or popping. If it extends back out slowly, its probably bad.

both of mine don't extend back out fast. Rather very smoothly, but no shooting upwards type of speed.

even the replacement I got from urbanimport is the same

Mine did and the strut was blown as did the stock struts when they were removed. They had no rebound at all. Remember they are pressurized. Maybe your talking about while they are mounted on the car, then yes they will move freely and have little dampening. I was referring while the strut was off the car.

With the strut off the car, if you can very easily move the piston up and down by hand, then it is blown. I have experienced struts so old and blown that the piston will fall into the strut body with just the force of gravity when you let go of is after extending it. It should be very difficult to compress and rebound the piston by hand.

9F/7R. Lets remember folks, the ride will be on the stiff side on rough roads if you go with any type of coilover system.

So is the verdict on a blown shock that, on a good shock you should not be able to derpress the piston at all? For all the struts that I've had in the past (New, not coilovers) I've been able to depress the piston down all the way and the piston would come back up slowly and smoothly, like Larrio said. Is that a point of difference between regular shocks and coilover shocks? I'll be getting D2's soon and I want to make sure that they are good when they come in.

I am actually VERY suprised how civilized this is. I had a 98 Sentra SE with AGXs and Eibach Prokits and that was "stiff." This setup is butter in comparison. Even with the shocks set to full stiff it's nothing like the other setup. I'm almost dissappointed that at full stiff all around that I can't really jar my kidneys...

I know someone with D2's in their Nissan 240sx that say that D2's are much softer than any other coilovers he's had or has rode on.

I would think no rebound or a fast rebound..a slowly rebounding strut is a good one

Can you also tell by when you push it in? Shouldn't a new strut be harder to push in than a blown one?

I didn't see it mentioned in this thread or the GD thread, so here's a question for you guys: dblrr900, K Pazzo 6, skalberti, Larrio

What spring rates F/R did you guys end up going with?

i opted for 9F/7R which is the default spring rate since its closest to the JIC A2's at 9F/6R

I got the standard Setup. Just ordered a set. Really didnt know what to try and get other than the standard offering. Didnt want to mess with the basics.

I am very happy with these. I do need to drop them out this week though and put the gaskets on the front. They are making a creeking noise and I know that is the cause. Once that is done, they are going to be fine. The ride is jarring when you hit a hard one, but other than that, very stable and decent. Then again, I had coilovers on other cars and am used to this kind of ride.

If you like the stock feeling.... there is NO way you will achieve that with a coilover.

Do you have any pics of the gaskets you made? Also what were they made of and where did they go? I'm in the GD on the D2's and have an AE and am ineterested. Thanks!
