Adding moonroof to 5th gen...

Hey all,

Any of you guys add a moonroof/sunroof (whichever the stock nissan one is) to your car aftermarket?

I am trying to figure out whether i want to spend the money on this or not, and I don't want it to get screwed up if I have somebody do it for cheap, but I'm afraid Nissan will charge $$$$$$$$.

Anybody had it done and has some idea how much it'll cost, plus if it's worth it or not considering the risks?

Thanks,
Brian

I think people have asked this before and I think the conclusion was that its not worth it. Nissan will do it for an @$$load of money and most other places will not have the credibility in terms of quality and follow-up issues, if any. Unless of course, you know someone else who has already gotten this done and can strongly recommend a vendor who will do it for cheap and with good quality. I guess that's why you're posting on the forum... good luck with everything...

adding a moonroof to a car tha originally didnt have one is just asking for trouble. you'd be definitely prone to leaks afterwards.

Not necessarily. There are some really good high quality aftermarket power moon roofs that can be added. Also, many of the higher end companies which do the installs warranty them, but you will pay a pretty penny. I have a buddy with at WRX who had one installed and it was around $1500 but it is a really nice setup.

I would want something like the 6th gen maximas. A sunroof longways that doesn't open. It's always seals so there won't be any leaks.

There is a local place in B-low who is well known for their aftermarket installs. They had 2 options when I went in, one which went back into the headliner like factory and the other that pops up and goes back. $700 v. $1100. Find a place that does installs for local dealers, such as Mitsibushi. I don't think roofs were an option on mitsibushis in the past, I may be confused.

most of the older galants didn't have moonroofs from the factory. so mitsibushi dealers had aftermarket companies install moonroofs in most of there cars. it was a high quality set up. my father has a 96 galant with aftermarket sunroof and its a great set up. not a leak and the car is almost 10 years old

Just find a reputable installer and you should be fine. I used to work at a dealership and we used an outside company to install aftermarket roofs and never had a problem.
I wouldn't expect to pay anymore than $1200 for a power sunroof.

about 600 for a power one here, lifetime warranty, its pretty sweet
except it goes up and slides, as opposed to stock factory ones that go into the roof.
