Anyone have STATIC problem when you touch the car?

I seem to generate a lot of static.. when I get out of the car and touch the door I get a big ZAP! What a pain! Has happened for years in different Maximas. Must be me I guess. Leather seats in every case.. wonder if that matters.

I recently got a pair of ground straps that I haven't mounted yet.. they are black rubber straps made with a lotta carbon. You attach them underneath the car so they drag on the road, which bleeds the static. When you are moving along, the wind flexes them off the ground, so they aren't always dragging. Used to see these things on old 70s cars. Hope it works.

Happens all the time with me, too. Just keep your left hand on the door jamb while getting out till your feet are on the ground. No ZAP....

Static Electricity is a pain. I work with it everyday. At my company we actually manufacture anti static products which include paints which will dissipate and conduct electricity, we will be pitching it to some car manufacturers soon.

Hopefully in a few years we will all be driving cars with anti-static paint.

I had that issue too when my car had cloth interior. Sometimes you can see a spark from the static (winter time) when open the door. The aftermarket leather interiors cured the problem.

It just happens more often in the colder months when the air is more drier. Just have to live with it. I remember when I was a kid a popular accessory was two rubber black strips that would hang from the back of your car and drag on the ground to reduce static electricity. I wonder if they worked. Looked crappy though. Who could forget curb feelers?

had it everyday with old car. never with Max. possibly b/c of leather interior and rubber mats? I suspected my old car had ground issues with the amp, fogs, and alarm I installed. Got shocked going in and out.

Yep me too - pretty annoying. What I usually do is put my leg out of the car and with my foot on the ground, the back of my shin touches the car near the door sill - you get a zap but it's through your jeans/pants and it isn't as intense.

I am tired of grabbing the door, etc. to ground myself.. sometimes I have stuff I'm carrying and it's a pain when I get that 'reminder' that I didn't do it.
I hope to put the black straps on far enough forward so you can't see them from behind. Haven't looked for a location yet.

Thats why I installed one of those japanese static single straps on my Max. Its on the drivers side. Looks alright but some mechanics think the strap is something falling off my car or something.

It really works, I never had a static problem ever again.

Shut the door with your elbow... that's what I do in the winter if the static begins to pi$$ me off... doesn't help that I own a lot of fleece jackets either...
