Question about the front catalytic converter.

The ecu censes the first catalytic converter? And is this the converter the usually gets blocked if the exhaust smells like sulfur or is it the rear cat that has no o2 sensors next to it?

Belive it or not- I had both the front cat go bad and the rear one. Rear one collapsed around 60K miles, and the front one went around 80K miles. ECU looks for the front cat and the cat in the ypipe. Aftermarket Ypipes eliminate the one in the Ypipe and move the o2 sensor closer to the front one - on California Emission cars, to read off the front cat.

I didn't, I removed it. You could eighter- get headers, or see anyone has a 95-00 front exhaust manifold for sale, and you will need a 5th gen federal emissions Ypipe. This will set a check engine light for ya, so you will need www.o2simulator.com to fix the catalitic converter codes from poping up.
