Finally Got My New MAFS and Installed it!

Dave Burnette of Southpoint Nissan in Austin TX sent me a MAFS for my 2000 SE and I installed it the day after I got it (took 4 weeks to reach Canada!). It is supposed to be installed and then the ECM is supposed to be re-flashed, however I did not do this. The new MAFS works perfectly however and only cost $85 U.S. In Canada the Nissan dealer here was going to charge me $639 plus tax (14%) for the same thing. Dave Burnette seemed very knowledgable about the Max and I would highly recommend dealing with him, he seems to sincerely care about Max Owners. Prior to installing the new MAFS, my car wouldn't even start, never mind run, it had been deteriorating for weeks after the SES light came on and I finally had to park it and do some investigation and study of the Service Manual. I concluded that the problem was the MAFS and after describing the problem to Dave, he agreed that it was most likely the MAFS. The car is now running A1 and feels like a new car. Replacing an MAFS is a simple job taking about 15-20 mins.

Cheers,

DAVEB's number is in the FAQ sticky... but here it is-- 1-888-254-6060
Be sure to ask for "Dave Burnette", there's another Dave B. there too so they might get mixed up
Tell him you're from the org.

14% tax? That almost brings me to tears. Is that on everything?

Thanks for the info. Glad your car is back running again.
I'll be sure to remember Dave if I have this problem in the future...

car has lost its "new perkiness of power" It doesn't have that smooth linear acceleration, it feels really low on power. Doesn't respond well. These are the traits of a bad MAF. With the newer ECU reprogram it will pick up MPG considerably. I average around 26-28MPH on my daily commute to work using 90% highways.

Yup, 14% tax on everything except for groceries. Some provinces differ with slightly higher or lower tax, Alberta has no Provincial tax but has the National GST which is 7%. It's a complicated system which keeps may government workers employed just to figure it all out.

He said a ecu reprogram not a ecu reset. The dealer has to do a reprogram.

Is it a must to reprogram the ECU after installing a new MAF?
