5th Gen used Maxima

Based on everyone's experiences with a 2000 Maxima (SE or GLE), what is the average mileage that this car could take before seeing any serious signs of tranny or engine problems?

I'm in the market for such a Maxima and wanted to get an idea of what mileages to weed out of my search.

I've seen some lower priced 2000's with as much as 140k miles on them. That's a lot, or maybe not for this engine.

Thanks

I think the best milleage to a 4 year old car is about 40-50k miles.

Come on! 140k miles? It is certainly still worth scrap metal though.

no way if it is a daily driver or so you should average 10-15k miles a year. My car is going to be 5 yrs old in jan and i only have 71k miles

100K miles on my beat to hell 01, and I am really big on maintenace of my own car. Normally if maintained right, 300-400K miles is not out of the question. Thing that needs to be addressed right away on a VQ30DE is the timing chains if they start to rattle. I think it would be a good idea to change them every 200K miles. **** I'm gonna go for the record with my VQ and see if I can get 400K miles out of it I seen a Previa with 670K miles on the original engine and tranny.

Thanks fellas. Obviously the less miles the better. I'm going to have an independent mechanic run a full diagnostic on whatever car I select. Any other advice would be much appreciated. And I agree with you, jzwu, I can't justify grabbing a $10k car with 140,000 miles on it.

Maintanence is key. If a car is well maintained, you can run it into the ground. Milage shouldnt be a deciding factor. I have a 2k with 73000. The car is always serviced on time and is running great.
