took about 3.5 - 4 hours of beer, uh, i mean, work

the install is easy (although it would have taken me forever w/o my friend)

the tranny cooler i got was the hayden 478 (the largest i could find). it cost me $80 (heavy duty model costed me more than the aluminum). i didn't have time to get redline, so i got mobil 1 synthetic (from pepboys for $5.99 each) car took in 4 quarts.

tranny cooler kit has all the things you need and is really easy to install (AFTER THE FRONT BUMER WAS REMOVED). my friend wanted easy access and work area, so he wanted the front bumper to come off. (btw, it may take longer w/ hand tools; this was done w/ air tools)

one of these days, i'll have to take pictures of an install so i can post it. sorry, no pics of the install.

Beer and work.?? Same thing!!!

BTW, do you need drilling and cutting when installing the cooler? How did you managed to drain all the oil?

No cutting besides the new hoses and plastic thingies), drilling, or draining necessary.

Why did you go with a larger cooler?

i read a post that said to get the biggest one you can get. the size doesn't seem to big to me, these coolers are pretty small imo, although mine's rated for larger trucks that tow. the stock cooler shares the cooler w/ the radiator, which means it's not really being cooled since the radiators always hot just from the coolant.

there was no drilling, and the hosing was placed under the car to the stock tubing. there was enough tubing (and a little extra) because we used some of the stock tubing where there is a sharp bend to fit back into the tranny. we did this to avoid any sharp bends in the tubing because robert said the heat would make the tubing more pliable and didn't want it getting 'pinched' because it got 'soft', stealing valuable fluid from the tranny.

actually, there was almost NO oil from taking out the tubing (maybe a couple of table spoons). i drained the transmission fuild from the drain pipe located under the pan, just like doing an oil change.

I am thinking of getting one this summer, the only dilemma that i have is where to install it. Any one have any pics of this kind of install. Is there a how-to tread or site on installing a transmission cooler?

It sounds like this was a pretty tough job. My brother installed a trans cooler in a Dodge 1/2 ton so that it wouldn't overheat while pulling his boat. Though it only took a couple of hours...

What kind of performance difference will this offer or what kind of effects do you expect from this addition?

There is no performance benefit. It is designed to keep your transmission more healthy from more frequent shifts or trailing towing. Lessens wear-and-tear.

A transmission cooler keeps the transmission fluid from getting too hot, which is what kills a transmission. Anytime the fluid temperature goes above 240 degrees the fluid begins to break down and the transmission sustains damage. It may not be detectable in the beginning, but the effects are cumulative.
The biggest possible cooler that you can fit, is probably not the best cooler. If the fluid doesn't reach a certain temperature (there is a sensor in the transmission), it will not shift into OD. All you need is a small cooler to keep the temp in the right range (unless you are road racing - on a track). Synthetic ATF is also a big help.
A properly sized cooler and frequent (30k miles) fluid changes, with synthetic ATF, can double the life of a transmission; if you start by doing this from day one.

I wasn't very creative when I setup my account and used my name. No, as far as I know I have no affiliation with a watch company. If I could go back a edit my account name I would. How does GXEme sound :-).

Ok, I'm now GEXme instead of jwletourneau. One of the many benefits of having a million email addresses!
