2002 - Service Engine Soon Light

2002 - Service Engine Soon Light
The Service Engine Soon light came on this weekend in my 2002 Max. Does this mean there is a problem or is it a standard dealer light to get you to bring it in. The car has just over 31K miles. It is running perfectly. If this is simply a dealer service call... how do I reset the light??
