I'm new,so forgive me :)

I just bought a used 2000 Maxima SE

Just curious about one thing right now...
Can you tell by the VIN where it is made or assembled ?
The VIN # starts off like this jn1ca**********

I assumed Japan but where?
Or is Japan even right?
Thanks!

It is Japan. Not sure where though. 5th gen maximas were built in Japan. 6th gen are assembled in Smyrna, TN I think.

There is a letter of series of letters that designate the place of manufacture, but I don't remember where they are in the VIN.

But like Nismo said, all Maxes up to the 2004 model were made in Japan.

The 1st position (J) is for Japan. The 11th position is where the car was manufactured (plant code - this is the letter just before the serial number).
M = Tochigi, T = Oppama, U = Zama, W = Kyushyu, X = Nissha-Hiratsuka, 4 = Aichi, 5 = Murayama, 9 = Fujiyu.
