Taillights and LEDs - is it possible

I know stillen has come out with those retarded looking LED tails but I was wondering if I could easily open up the rear taillights and create my own led setup? Any feedback is appreciated...

I too would like to have all clear lens's in the rear and have super bright LEDs that are clear when unlit but amber and red when lit, but there are legal issues involved.

At least two members have made their own extemely nice ones. I haven't seen a decent-looking product you could buy, though.

Yeah you can do it. But the tail lights are sealed so you have to cut the back open with a dremel, shape a plastic board and mount the leds on it. Then hook it all up with the appropriate resistors and you are set.

It is not hard, it's just so tedious...

Actually i have kept both my headlights and tail lights with an open bulb socket for a while.. condensation never occured. Weird...

well after you cut the back off you can always glue it back together with some glue, fill with silicone or even fiberglass if you want to go to extreme. There is no structural purpose to the rear cover anyway.

Thats what we are planning on doing, using some type of glue or silicone to seal it back up and hope it holds together. I know of a few people have tried getting the tails open and i dont think i remember anyone who was successful without breaking them. My roomate is convinced it can be done so we are just waiting for some free time to cut em up.

Someone has successfully opened opened up their taillights and put LEDs in them. That person would be Jairo, aka Playero on the board.
